Carufel Has Irish On His Mind

Matt Carufel, OG from St. Paul, MN, has picked three finalists and will decide two more. As it stands, Notre Dame, Minnesota and Iowa are in the hunt.

ND has offered Carufel, the only offensive guard with an Irish offer to this point. He attended junior day in April and hopes his official visit will be for the USC game.

"They do the same things that everybody does, but they have more to sell."

Compared to Minnesota and Iowa, yes Matt, they do.

Iowa and O-linemen are a tough match to beat. Ferentz and his staff can really coach the big boys up front. As most of us know, ND lost Eubanks to Iowa and he from the same school as Carufel. But so are Rashon Powers Neal and Ryan Harris.

Again, Carufel plays a position that ND is in dire need of. I can't think of any good reasons why he wouldn't choose ND over IA and MN, or any two others.

Even though I am a ND fan through and through, I do not see why carufel would not want to go to Iowa and play for Ferentz.

Iowa had a pretty strong class that will arrive on campus in a few weeks. Carufel could probably start in 2006 for ND. I don't think he can say that at Iowa. He could definitely play early at Minnesota as well.

Iowa has momentum right now on the recruiting front, but Ferentz was also going up against Ty Willingham and Ron Turner in recruiting. Not the case any longer. Ron Zook has already closed in on Illinois' best players and has verbals from a handful and Weis is doing much of the same.

Since we are filling the roster at a frantic pace I am just wondering if there has been any news on Carufel coming out of Minn. This is the OL that I would really like ND to land. I guess we will have to wait until after the 15th to find out though...

Seems they're coming back down to Earth. Huge wins over Ball State and Northern Iowa though.

And where are the best players in Chicago verballed thus far? ND and Illinois. As it should be....

ND's line has been stellar this year. Latina knows what he's doing. Mendoza has carved these guys up too.

It appears that with offensive linemen, Iowa might not be the only game in town anymore.

Carufel is a must have for ND.

With all of those great offensive lineman down at Iowa, I sure keep seeing highlights of Tate lying on his back.

Hmm...

I agree that Carufel is a must for ND. But I also think that Chris Stewert and Sam
Young are in the same category. Stewert didn't exactly heap praise on ND doing his visit at the MSU game. I think it will be hard to get him out of Texas.

Regardless we need some OL people and maybe the USC game will produce some.

Got to believe that the 2006 class still needs at LEAST two more OL. Young and Carufel would be nice. Would also like to see two DT (McCoy & Kates).

I'd like to have Young, but they could have two tackles by then already. Olsen can play any of the three spots, so there is room to work.

Carufel and Young would be monster signings. They need at least 3 more linemen to make 5. I think 6 would really be ideal.

Aaron Brown sounds like he's in and he's a tackle. These guys do get moved around once they get to college. I like high school tackles as college guards. Meaner.

Does anybody know if we offered a scholly to Aaron Brown? On another site, it states that ND has not offered him yet. If this kid is so high on ND, then why haven't we offered him? I saw a pic of this kid and he looks like a monster!!!!

Brown has been offered. It looks like he is ready to commit if you can believe his Father.

He is visiting Purdue this weekend.

ND, Ohio State, Va Tech and Auburn are all on his list. Pretty good competition.

Jason Sapp's article on the O-Line prospects on Blue and Gold today says that the scouting report on Brown is that he doesn't play agressive. That would have to change if he decides on ND.

They also mention what Mendoza could do for Sam Young...scary.

So Brown has changed his last official visit to Purdue?

Hmmm does this bode well for us or not??

Fear not. Here are Dad's comments on the visit:

He wouldn't be going up there if he didn't like the school," George Brown said.

"Ray Edwards is a friend of ours," George Brown said of the Boilermaker defensive end and Cincinnati Woodward alumnus. "He played in Cincinnati, so we know him.

"And Coach (Bill) Legg's been recruiting him for more than a year."

Following the Purdue trip, Brown will have taken all five of his official visits. He'll announce a decision at an Oct. 6 press conference.

This won't be Brown's first visit to Purdue, as he attended last season's Ohio State game, then returned in the winter for an academic day.

Sounds like a courtesy favor for a family friend. If he's seen Purdue already and Dad says ND is the best school they've seen so far, I'm not scared.

Oct. 3rd ND could get Brown and Walls. More loyal sons marching onward to victory!!

Could be killing two birds with one stone, (1) the 'courtesy favor' and (2) seeing CDub&Co in person on the road...

I think Brown will go to Va tech. Ohio State seems to be out of the race surprisingly. Brown's family felt they didn't get enough attention when they visited Ohio State.

He's announcing Oct 6th I believe...

Daron Rose has ND and Florida State on the top of his list. Mendoza would have some work to do with this guy, but I've watched the video. He ENGULFS defenders.

"I only have two official visits set up at this point and thats Notre Dame and Florida State," Rose said. "You're not going to find a better tradition than at Notre Dame and they were the team I grew up pulling for as a kid. I love the staff at Florida state."

Basically a gut feeling. Buckeye fans are pretty peeved with him right now, they felt he was a lock early on, but he and his family didn't seem to enjoy his vist during the Texas OSU game. Felt they didn't get enough attention. It's was rumored the other day on the Va tech boards that he had committed to them. He is set to announce OCT 6th.

Va Tech has alot to offer, early playing time, and they're one of the top teams in the counrty this year, I'd say ND is second. You can never discount OSU though, they have a knack for getting guys at the last minute(maybe they show up at their doorstep with a bag full of money, i dunno)...

Hope we land him though, the staff seems to be in love with him. Kudos to Weis and staff for showing him a great time during his vist.

Even if we dont get him, it shows that ND can hang with anybody(recruiting wise).

I can't find any feedback on his visit there. I know he liked ND and Auburn a great deal. We'll see how it plays out. It seems like anyone that likes ND is getting on board quickly as of late.

Brown cancelled his visit to Miami this weekend and is going Purdue on an official this Saturday instead. For some reason I don't think he is going to see Purdue. I have a good feeling about this kid based on his and his family's comments after the ND/MSU game.

Lets say for argument sake VA Tech is his number 1 school and ND is his #2 school, then it makes sense that he'll visit the purdue-ND game this weekend to make sure he's making the right decision with VA Tech.

Regardless this is a big game this wkend for the Irish if they can win that might push them ahead of Vtech(or whoever his leader is). It's close right now with this kid, I bet he's really conflicted about all this...

I don't disagree. I think it is close between ND and whoever else (VT, Aub). He probably wants to see ND in person one more time to make sure of his decison.
