Mt. Carmel defeated Morgan Park 26-6 today at Soldier Field in Chicago.

Jones' line was 10-28 for 125 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT. Also had 52 yards rushing.

Morgan Park's offensive line had Jones running for his life, but overall it wasn't his best day. The INT is nothing to worry about....he was hit as he threw it and the ball fluttered straight up into the air.

Overall, great zip on his intermediate throws. Great touch on the deep ones. He's accurate, but Weis and Vaas will need to work with him on his mechanics for sure. Jones will have better days, but I'm not quite sure how good Morgan Park really is.

Jones was in the shotgun on just about every down and they did not run a single play out of the option. Just thought I'd mention it.

thanks for the report Jigg, opening game right? nothing to worry about. You said he was running for his life? how did his scrambling look?

He is very quick and elusive. No one could really get him down one on one. He was very slippery to their defenders, juking and spinning away from would be tacklers.

He throws a good ball. They just weren't connecting...

From Today's Chicago Tribune:

"The only way we're going to lose games this season is when we beat ourselves. I blame myself for some of the mistakes we made. I didn't feel a lot of pressure on me. When a team tries so hard to stop me, it opens up other things for my teammates."
He was sacked five times. It probably could have been 12.

No quarterback at ANY level should be sacked 5 times. That is simply a sign of horrid offensive line play. If he was sacked 5 times, that means he was probably hurried 20+ times and pressured the entire game.

Lets just hope his offensive line doesn't get our recruit injured.

They play Richards on Saturday night, a powerhouse from the south suburbs. MP beat them last season, but they beat Mt. Carmel last year too.

Jones will be tested right from the get go this year with these first two games. And everyone knows he's an ND recruit, so they're gunning for him.

No, I won't be at Richards. It is way too far from where I live and I have another game to scout that is right down the street from my office.

I'll post his numbers from the paper the day after each game. Both papers will be following MP and Jones pretty closely.
