AUSTIN, Texas -- Texas defensive end Mike Williams will miss his second straight season with the Longhorns because of academic ineligibility.

Freshman running back Henry Melton and offensive lineman Kyle Thornton are also ineligible to participate in the team's first practice Monday, but both said they plan on reporting once their academic issues are resolved.

Williams, a junior, had six sacks in 2003. He said he will still attend classes at Texas this fall.

Thornton is a redshirt sophomore who was expected to back up Will Allen at right guard.

Nothing suprises me with some of these elite programs when in comes to their coaches. Recruiting and using players that only know how to play football to keep their jobs.

This is why I love Notre Dame.

It isn't very often you see a former football player that isn't well spoken, thoughtful and that can't formulate complete sentences. Our boys are men, and for the most part, good people.

Um, we don't talk like that.

The talk wasn't aimed at Texans, it was aimed at those that don't value education.

If I offended you irishtexan, I apologize. This was not meant to be an attack on the south. I was just ribbing these athletes who have the opportunity to get a degree (for free), and blow it because they prefer to "bask in their self absorbed glory" and decide to concentrate on their social lives rather than their education. It is a privilege to be a student/athlete and I feel that a good portion of these kids take the opportunity for granted. I hope that this kid can get his stuff together and better himself in the classroom as well as on the field. No offense intended!!

GO IRISH!!!!

Austin is a great town. Not quite a big city but not quite a dinky college town. Rests right in the middle. My cousin is living their now since she finished her master's degree. Great times.

As for Texas football, there are several reasons why Mack Brown can't seem to get to the mountaintop. This is one of them.

Yeah, I really dig Austin. It was one of the 5 cities I looked into before I decided to move to Indianapolis. I liked the fact that there was a TON of things to do and seemed to have a really friendly culture.

irishtexan, I'm glad!!!! Most of my friends still live in Cleveland, Ohio and since I've moved to PA, I'm always getting razzed about living in Steelers Country and how I'm a turn-coat and a traitor for living near P-burgh. To tell ya the truth, I could give a frog's fat patoot about the Steelers. But my friends always make fun of me for living in "Pennsyl-tucky" or they ask if I'm considered the king of my town because I have all of my teeth???? The ribbing is relentless (those heartless sons of....)

I'm not too sure about the whole Deliverence thing. Will research and let you know!!
FOREVER IRISH!!!!
