There is a difference between realism and pessimism. We are walking out a lot of newcomers this year. It's usually the ones crowing about ten or eleven win seasons that end up butthurt in late December.

Not saying you can't have high hopes, but don't knock on people for looking at things realistically. After last year, no Irish fan needs reminding that no game is a sure thing.

I'd be perfectly fine with 8-4, if one of those wins is Michigan.

I don't feel like ND is better than Michigan or Stanford and possibly Michigan State.

Notre Dame is considerably better than Michigan, slightly better than Stanford and probably worse than Michigan State.

Really hoping to beat UM, OU or SC this year... I'd take any of the three and go from there.

Everyone is giving OU too much credit. Jones is overrated...look what happened to when Broyles went out with injury. He's an above average QB at best. I think we have a good shot at beating them.

Exactly. Optimisim with this schedule and this team (youth) is going 9-3. Realism is going 8-4 or 7-5 (while dissapointing)...10-2 is lunacy.

Next year is my year as I've stated numerous times.

We were better than Michigan last year as well......And our secondary got worse.

OK. But hard to see how we're significant favorites against MSU, UM or Stanford, though, All three are probably tossups at this point.
If we win two of those three, play USC and Oklahoma well and win the games we're supposed to, I'd consider it a successful season.

who said we were significant favorites against them? I personally think we could beat UM by 10 points, but MSU is truly a toss up game for me, Stanford is an unknown, but people seem to forget how a #1 overall draft pick can affect a team. Just look at the Colts without the best QB ever last year. I dont think Stanford goes 2-10, especially with a pretty easy schedule, but they are floating in the 8 win range if you ask me, and wont be able to compete with the big boys on their schedule the same way they did last year.

At work so do have access to it, but I would agree in light of the rankings MSU's defense has been getting this preseason. MSU's biggest weaknesses will be new QB (but at least has a couple years in the system) and most of its biggest receivers went away too.
