I probably couldn't have picked Tony Scott out of a lineup, but I've spent a good part of my day thinking about him today for a couple of reasons. Top Gun is probably his most famous film, but Man on Fire and True Romance are both among my all-time favorites (somewhere in the archives of this board, there is a top-10 movie thread, and I'd be willing to bet those are both on my list). If anybody on here is unfamiliar with either of them, I highly recommend checking them out. Also, I've lost someone very close to me by suicide within the past year, and so I'm a little more sensitive to it when it hits the news.

RIP to Mr. Scott.

Yahoo was reporting that he had inoperable brain cancer. I just can't even fathom...

Films that have either or both a part of them are films I always watch.

RIP

Just saw an interview with the brothers recently. Used to like Numb3rs.

Whole video's of bridge jumpers including a full length feature on the Golden Gate.

Here is what Wikipedia says about it already:

On 19 August 2012, at approximately 12:30 p.m. PDT, Scott committed suicide by jumping off the Vincent Thomas Bridge in the San Pedro port district of Los Angeles, California. Investigators from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Harbor Division found contact information and notes to loved ones in his car, which was parked on the bridge,[21] and a suicide note at his office.[22][23] Witnesses said he did not hesitate before jumping.[21][24] His body was taken from the water by the Los Angeles Port Police.[1]

There was a rumour that Scott had inoperable brain cancer although it has subsequently been reported that his widow told investigators that the rumour was "absolutely false."[25] Scott is survived by his wife, Donna Wilson Scott, and their twin sons, Frank and Max, born in 2000.[2][26]

This saddens me. I wish his family the best, and am sorry they have to face the additional pain of his planned demise.
