Proud of the NCAA for standing up and taking a hard stand. And I do have to congratulate the powers that be at PSU for signing the Consent Agreement on the penalties. They would have looked even worse if they appealed. Accept the punishment and move on.

@John_Infante: NCAA releases says the NCAA is considering waiving scholarship limit for schools that accept PSU transfers.

Just making sure everyone sees this, This means schools can have over 85 on their roster to accept PSU transfers.

They might not have a team next year.

@John_Infante: NCAA waiving official visit limits. Penn St players can take as many as they want during 2012-13. Normally limited to 5.

@BryanDFischer
Big Ten press conference at 10am CT to address Penn State.

Temple could really benefit quite a bit from players being able to immediately transfer and also with future recruits in and around Pennsylvania

These are very severe. (and I don't mean 'overly' harsh; just closer to the death penalty than I was expecting)

Someone posted (wooly??) somewhere back that if the NCAA does lift the scholly limit for programs accepting PSU transfers, their better be a condition that it excludes USC (and any other school under scholarship restrictions).

Is anyone else surprised that the NCAA didn't wait for the Paterno family investigation to be completed before bringing the hammer down?

wow thats a small detail that could have a huge impact. This means schools can go into Penn State with really nothing holding them back to get kids to transfer. Interesting to see how the fallout transpires.

That's what I've been saying. The only kids I can even comprehend staying are ones that:
A.Don't play at all
B.Absolutely just love the school

They might not have 20 kids on the roster this fall, if any at all....

Forgive me for possibly asking a dumb question...

Let's say ND gets one of their current players to transfer. What University pays for his scholarship?

This is really a sad day for college football! Not saying PSU didnt desearve it but for the sport, this sucks...

On another not can we note act like vultures with their recrutis and former players? Sh!t the body is still warm lets all come down on who we can attempt to snag. Imagine these poor kids that have their lives before em disrupted like this!

I understand your sentiment, but I'd be willing to bet most of the good players already have their stuff packed.

My thought would be the school the player attends would "pay" the scholarship, but the schools that accept them will be allowed to go over their limit.....just me guessing though.

This is floating around..
b5a9c2b9.jpg

There were some puts and takes, but this was much closer than initially thought:

Misses on:
-suspension of football for 1 year; but due to the open transfer ruling, and the potential that other teams could take PSU players for free against their own 85, may have similar impact anyways (and the Big Ten hasn't ruled yet).
-No scholarships for 2013 (see above)
-comment about fielding a team in 1AA or lower (see 2 above)
-comment on ticket revenue

otherwise:
-bowl ban = much worse
-roster transfers = bang on
-dispensation for other schools to take PSU players without counting against 85 = under review
-scholarship reductions = right total, slightly off by year (and no comment about the 65 max)
-records vacated = bang 0n
-financial = no numbers were included

The effect of what was levied makes the actual sanctions pretty close to as punitive as what is listed here. While PSU will (currently) be eligible to run a program in 2013, and will be on TV, agree with many others that the impact of the sanctions may cause mass exodus

Golden is John_Infante a reliable source cause that would be quite odd?
