I just watched the 1992 Sugar Bowl on ESPN Classic. I love that mostly because of the way Gator fans were doggin us and Lou smoked Spurrier. Bettis had some incredible runs too.

As for games I was at, FSU in 2002 was incredible but there was nothing like the 1980 game vs Michigan when Harry Oliver kicked a 51 yd field goal to end the game and win 29 to 27.

Taking my son to our first ND football game and seeing him with all of his ND gear on cheering on the Irish.

going to ND / USC in 1988 at the coliseum, irish #1, trojans #2, and whooping their asses. i was only ten, but i remember we were up high in the corner of the endzone next to the peristyle, and a plane flew over prior to kickoff pulling a banner that read "traveler is a gelding." priceless!

2 games come to mind. definitely nd/miami '88 and don't forget that same year home opener night game with nd/michigan where reggie ho was on fire! by the way, notre dame needs to start playing some night games again at home. nothing beats walking into notre dame stadium, lights on, and 90,000 people going ballistic.

i agree, especially since they have lights permanently installed since the stadium's renovation. i haven't been to a night game at ND, but didn't they have big light structures on trucks at various points outside the building?

maybe the school is concerned with excessive tailgating, because even is there's a 7:00pm kickoff the kids will still get to the parking lot at 7:00 am...

i think the main reason is because of the nbc contract, and the fact that they find it necessary to broadcast games only in the early afternoon for whatever reason. however, an all day drinking binge in the parking lot might make some old time alumni a bit nervous come game time.

something about night games in that place is just rediculous. the energy is way more intense then an afternoon game.

My opinion is to schedule night games or early morning games. If you are going to have the game at night ok have it in early evening (about 4 o'clock eastern) so that it ends before midnight lol. Or else i would prefer all the games to start at noon eastern because it seems then like the game (when you are at home) is not your saturday. I hate the 2:30 or 1:30 games cause then u r stuck at home for literally the whole day (late morning sleep till about 10 then a brunch at 11-12 then you have to stay home for the game in an hour) Dont know if you understand me but thats my opinion any way.

I love a night game too but my problem is when I go to a game I usually stay in Chicago then take the Southshore to Southbend. I think the last one leaves at about 8pm so I would end up having to rent a car. Small price to pay though for such an amazing atmosphere. I love walking the campus at night....especially at the Grotto!

Almost getting caught for smuggling in a bottle of Kiwi-Lime Mad Dog to the ND-FSU game in '93, then rushing the field, leaving thru the tunnel and splashing around in "Stonehenge".....then seeing the #1 lit on top of Grace soon after.

closely followed by saying Hail Marys in the stands during the ND-PSU snow bowl of '92....

not one of my favorite moments, but definitely memorable. here's a brief excerpt to what happened:

Having already taken the Aggies where they hadn’t been in a long time, Sherrill took them where they had never gone Jan. 1, 1988. Texas A&M played in its third consecutive Cotton Bowl for the first time.

The Aggies beat Notre Dame, 35-10, defeating a Heisman Trophy winner in the Cotton Bowl for the second time in three years. The Heisman winner was receiver and kick returner Tim Brown, a Dallas native whose homecoming was spoiled by the Aggies.

The 1988 Cotton Bowl gave A&M Warren Barhorst, the previously unknown member of the 12th Man kickoff coverage team who sparked a bench-clearing altercation when he grabbed Brown’s towel after a kickoff return in the fourth quarter. Brown tackled Barhorst as he was running off the field with the towel, igniting a brief scuffle in front of the Aggie bench.

Notre Dame was penalized 15 yards for a personal foul, but there were no ejections.

unbelievable...what was that all about?

Well it would be either the time my father brought me to my first NDfootball game 14 yrs ago or 2yrs ago when I took my only son to his first game. Taking your son to see his first game at ND is simply awesome.

Senior Day 1992 in the snow against Penn State. I was 14 watching that game in my kitchen. Mirer to Brooks....went absolutely hysterical.

A close second is the 1989 Fiesta Bowl against West Virginia. Domination at it's finest.

Third would be Florida State in 1993.

So far, probably the 93 FSU game. I was only about 4 years old, but it was still awesome. My whole family was going crazy, and even though I barely knew what was going on, I was still jumping up and down and screaming with them.

Must add Raghib Ismail taking back two kickoffs on the road against Michigan. Simply incredible. That would be my #4.

Rounding out the top 5 would have to be 1988, 31-30 against Miami. Terrell taking an INT back for a TD and knocking down the last pass.

Every win against Michigan is a tie for sixth.

I am a young guy so I remember the '93 FSU game (5th grade at the time), I coverted it to DVD. I remember the OT game in 2000 w/ Nebraska. I believe ND has been the only team to lose and move up two spots in the AP Poll after that game. Arnaz Battle's catch against MSU in '02 and Hoilday to Battle that same year against FSU, first play from scrimmage. Number one will be this year after we take out USC.

I also remember that Nebraska game in 2000 like it was yesterday. Such an awesome atmosphere and experience to be a part of. I often get funny looks from my dad when I talk about that game but that may be because he was so ashamed of his fellow alums who sold to the Husker fans. It will always be one of the best memories I have of Notre Dame Football along with the '93 FSU game and the '04 Michigan game because we rushed the field at the end. Great memories any time I'm at a game though. There are truly too many to pick from.

Last year my father, brother and I went to Knoxville for the ND/ TENN game. There was nothing but orange and white and that DA%# Rocky Top Tennessee song every two frickin seconds (if I heard that song one more time I was going to flip my lid). You will not find a more classy fan base in the country (other than our beloved ND nation) than you will find in Tenn. Complete strangers will walk up to you (with orange and white on from head to toe) and shake your hand, tell you what a great football team you have, and wish you good luck. No one walked up to me and said " Your team sucks" or "We are going to beat your a$$es", rather "Good luck, you have a great football team". A really neat experience. When I saw Goolsby pick off that pass and run it in for 6, I knew it was a lock. There was 110,000 fans in the stadium (very few ND fans ) and the only ND fans in our section than my family and 2 obnoxious (but hysterical)fans from Cali. I will remember us celebrating in the sea of orange and the Tenn fans just walking up to us and shaking our hands and saying "Nice game". Pretty cool experience.
