id say we just got 2 solid kids that could make people miss. golden can do it. and all teams have that hidden gem from out of position that can play both ways, i.e. macho harris

dan wenger???? are u thinkin john sullivan from like 3 years ago haha

Yeah, it was John Sullivan who had all those high snaps that made us ND fans want to puke every time a ND QB went to shotgun. I added the 'O'.

Hopefully we do have that hidden gem, or maybe it can be a freshman stud (Wood anyone?)...

... but the Wildcat is not a gimmick, it's just not an 'offense'...
Yep. If that's what you do all time.

I get pissed when my favorite teams (read: the teams I bet on) try trick plays at horrible times, like when it's third and 4 and they try a double-reverse pass.

Sometimes a simple dive or trap up the gut on 4th and 40 can get you a touchdown. I have seen it.

I really don't get why teams (including ND) will run this with the qb out wide though. I mean he's not going to be laying many good blocks, and unless he is Tyrell Pryor you are still essentially going 10 vs. 11 anyway and negating the advantage of the wildcat. We can't even run out of the traditional running formations. So I doubt we can move the ball out of a formation where the defense knows exactly whats coming.

It is so the defense has no time to sub in the right players. If the QB is in the huddle, they will put certain players in, however, if there is no QB, different, faster players. My opinion at least.

Coming from someone whos NFL team runs the shit out of the wildcat I can tell you it is hit or miss. The teams that are consistantly successful are the ones that have backs who can throw as well. The Dolphins usually ran it with Ronnie Brown taking the direct snaps and either handing it off to Ricky Williams who was in motion or keeping it himself. Now Ronnie can also throw halfway decent so the coverage didnt just come flying up. When certain defenses would dare him to throw he would, and a couple of times hooked up with Fasano for TDs. If the defense knows you dont have the option to throw it the formation becomes much less successful.
