I know I don't post much at all on here, but I've been an ND fan for over 20 years, and yes, I do remember the 1988 National Championship team. I have an honest question about Brian Kelly. Why is he the guy a lot of people keep mentioning? I know he's doing great work at Cincinnati and before that, at Grand Valley State, but how does he tie into Notre Dame? Is it just because he's doing so well with the Bearcats? I'm not saying I do or don't want him as head coach. I'm just trying to understand why his name is mentioned the most. I've watched a little bit of Cincinnati this season and they do keep winning, but I have some questions about how good they really are. Obviously, they're playing better than ND, but I don't think they could beat any of the top 3 teams, and I think we all agree that ND should be able to contend with those top 3 year in and year out. I also question the offense Cincinnati uses if Kelly came to ND. I now a lot of teams use some variation of the spread offense, but how long would it take to get the proper players at Notre Dame to run it well. If it takes a few years and ND struggles, wouldn't we be in the same situation we are now, people demanding we get another new head coach because we're not in the National Championship hunt every year? Again, I really don't know much about Brian Kelly, but I would really appreciate any information.
I'm still undecided about keeping Weis. I understand both sides, but I want to see how these last 3 games go before committing one way or the other. I could be way off, but I see the loss to Navy as a major reason why Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate decide to stay next year. I think that game raised some questions with NFL scouts about Clausen's ability to finish drives in the redzone. I thought Clausen made some bad decisions and could really benefit from one more year in college. Golden is really fun to watch, but he hasn't done anything in the punt return game and I don't see him as a legitimate #1 receiver in the NFL. He does remind me of Carolina's Steve Smith, but I don't think he's ready yet. Once again, just my opinion.
I appreciate anyone who took the time to read this and please feel free to share your thoughts.
