Why Brady should win the Heisman

The relevant question, then, should be which passer was most helped by schedule and his supporting talent. Regarding the first point, there's a misconception in the press that Ohio State played a tougher schedule than Notre Dame. They did not. OSU's opponents, not counting their games against the Buckeyes, were 73–59, while Notre Dame's were 75–48. It's true that the Irish played a couple of walkovers in North Carolina and Army, but their top six opponents, based on Sagarin's neutral field power ratings in USA Today, were USC (no. 2), Michigan (3), UCLA (20), Penn State (23), Georgia Tech (35), and Navy (43), while Ohio State's were Michigan (3), Texas (19), Penn State (23), Minnesota (37), Cincinnati (40) and Iowa (46). So the top half of Notre Dame's schedule (a combined 52–16) was tougher than Ohio State's toughest six (47–19).

All good points, but the media gave Troy the Heisman after the ND-Michigan game and never planned on taken it back.

No use in arguing this anymore. The fact of the matter is that there were two ultra-hyped quarterbacks in preseason. One quarterback has seen his team go undefeated and to the national championship game. The other has suffered two blow out losses, throwing 3 interceptions in one of them. It seems like a no brainer to me.

You're right, there's no use arguing this. This is a team award now, given to the high profile player on the best team. Hell, IMO, Smith might not even be the best football player on his own team. He is, however, the leader so he's the man to beat. There are several past winners who were great football players in college and the pros who wouldn't even be considered today because of how their college team ranked. It's just the way things have changed in this media driven award. Accept it and move on. Nothing is guaranteed in the NFL, but I bet BQ has a more successful career at QB than Smith will.

Quinn probably played at a higher average level than Smith, and is in my opinion the more talented quarterback, but he looked very bad against Michigan. It wasn't all his fault or anything close to it, but he didn't rise above his teams ineptiitude either. Smith has never looked bad or outclassed all year. He is on a more talented team and turned the ball over twice against Michigan, but the fact that he never looked bad gives him the Heisman. Ifr Quinn played well in defeat to Michigan, he might have got a pass. But from then on it was Smith's to lose and he never did.

This is why the Heisman doesn't mean much. The media give it to some guy in the beginning of the year and then wait for him to lose it. Then they give it to someone else and wait for him to lose it. The last man to get it and not lose it, wins.

Any quarterback who throws for 108 yards, NO td's and 1 int against Illinois has no business beating Darren McFadden for the Heisman.

that play where he eluded a sack, scrambled, and threw a 40 yard strike in the end zone the next week against penn state sorta put the icing on the cake.

yeah, that one play was incredible. Nevermind the rest of that game. There is no way that he would lose the heisman after play. The last few weeks the "experts" have used words like "lock" and "its a gimmie" when talking about Smith and the Heisman. I just know that there is no way in hell that Troy Smith should win any, zero, zip awards that involve being a QB. Outstanding player, maybe, QB, no way.

Brady did win the Unitas award, which while obviously less hyped is pretty significant. The weird thing is Darren McFadden is supposedly making up a lot of ground for second. Is McFadden "better" or more significant to his team than Brady? Maybe. I think both are better and more significant to their teams than Smith, but we all know how the Heisman works. Best player on a big team who never has a really bad game. Larry Fitzgerald and peyton Manning both lost Heisman because of the on bad game factor.

Interesting point, considering he didn't win the best QB (Unitas) Quinn did.

With what happened with Oklahoma, where would we be if Adrian Peterson didn't get hurt?
