Who's left for ND?

Jiggs--Let's talk about the offers that are out there and who's going to be left out.

We now have 24 commits and are allowed 25.

Aldridge and Stewert are early so we actually have 22 out of 25.

If you consider Reuland and Carufel as in we're back up to 24.

If West opts for early we're at 23.

If Weis is leaving 1 for McCoy we're at 24.

That leaves 1 left for either Young, Kates, Lewis, Moore etc.

Am I forgetting anything?

You are right on Big Don. Only one thing I would correct. I believe a space is being saved for both McCoy and Young. Kates, Moore, Lewis and Austin are on the outside, looking in, until one or both of McCoy and Young decide to go somewhere else.

If that's right we have NO scholies left and can only hope that McCoy and Young opt for ND on signing day. By that time all the others will be going somewhere else. If ND recruiting is indeed shut down I have to believe Weis has both Young and McCoy. I can't believe he would leave those slots open without some assurances.

Comments from Lou Eliades:

Rivals250 offensive guard Lou Eliades was planning to take an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend, but instead the 6-foot-4, 286-pounder will be headed to State College. What does the Ocean (N.J.) Ocean Township prospect hope to see out of Penn State?

"I've been up to Penn State, but I've never completely seen what they have to offer," he said. "I just want to go and see the campus as a whole and get a good look at it. I like that it's closer than all the other schools and they have very good academics."

Was there any reason for Eliades to cancel his official to South Bend?

"It seems to me that they are pretty much set on the offensive line this year," he said. "They aren't completely out, but I'm not looking at them as much. I may still go back there in January."

Notre Dame seems unlikely for the four-star prospect as he is hoping to get a decision out of the way as early as next week.

Now, here is what I'm guessing based on this.

Webb, Olson, Stewart, Wenger...in. Carufel, in.

Weis wanted at least 5 on the O-line, but the magic number was 6.

If they really wanted six, wouldn't they be interested in Eliades in case Young goes elsewhere?

Could ND have Young based on these comments?

Hey Guys, don't forget the earlier post-I think the Author was bigwindbag-titled Sam Young misprint...or not?

http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051110/cgth042.html?.v=28

Gatorade would have a grunt put out that press release and that person would send out whatever was given to them, without realizing the consequences. I believe that Sam Young is a silent verbal.

Yeah, good call there.

That was kinda weird.

Sam Young will start at left tackle for ND next year if he comes aboard.

I'd feel better with Harris staying at left tackle. Young may start, but it would be in the open RT position. Season himself there for a year, then slide over after Harris begins his career on Sundays.

You're right.

I thought LeVoir played LT for some reason.

Young starts at one of those bookend spots, probably RT.

OK here's where I am now. I think Weis has both Young and McCoy , and you will see West agree to early enrollment. There are no more scholies!!

It would be completely out of character for Weis to "roll the dice" on Young and McCoy. If he is known for anything it is dotting every "i" and crossing every "t". He is the SOUL of organization.

Here is a guy who not only studies the opponents games LAST year but for THREE or FOUR years.

Here is a guy who is at the office 5:30 AM every day and stays til the wee hours.

He is a classic type "A" personality.

I can't believe he didn't say to Young and McCoy (in so many words) "We have two left--Are you coming or do we look elsewhere".

Any other senario would not fit his character. He is a direct NO nonsense guy.

I firmly believe this but be sure you take your money to Starbucks because the coffee won't be free.

Big Don, I hope you're right.

I think it is all going to fall into place with these guys. Lou Eliades saying that Notre Dame is done recruiting leads me to believe they got the six guys they wanted.

Anything can happen, but I've been more optimistic this year than I have in a long time.

FWIW, Scout.com has dropped Kates all the way down to a 2 star prospect. That is a pretty astronomical fall considering at the beginning of the summer he was a high four-star and a Rivals top 100 Junior to watch.

Hi Don:

As an long-time ND subway alumnus from MA and an unabashed Charlie Weis admirer, who is a combination of the best characteristics of Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells and whom I've had the pleasure of watching close-up as OC of the NE Patriots; I believe you are right on with this assessment of how 2006 recruiting will play out. Furthermore, I am pleasently amazed at the kind of tireless recruiter he has been. Finally, it is my firm believe that he will have an even better recruiting class next year!

From what I have seen from Kates, I think he has self-confidence issues. He seems to be underperforming in his senior year-from the reports our posters have been sharing-and when he had a spot available at ND he couldn't make a decision. Classic signs of immaturity and low self-esteem.

Welcome aboard lesandjill!! I think you'll like the site. Lot of smart guys ( not me) who love ND and know everything that's going on RE: the school.

We all think that the 2007 class will be better than this one and that's saying something. Weis is our guy.

On a side note during an interview w/Lewis on Rivals he said the ND is out of the picture. He said he like ND alot, but looks like ND is not persuing him any longer. Full interview can be heard here:
http://collegefootball.rivals.com/footballchannel.asp

Lewis was out because ND knew they were getting Toryan Smith.

Reuland and Carufel need to go public. If West goes EE this week, there will be room for Young and McCoy.

I am wondering if there is a contingency plan should either one or both go elsewhere. Butch Lewis appears to be a tough get just like Young and McCoy.
