A response I put regarding blogs Irish haters put on Micheal Rosenburg's despicable Foxsports.com article:
Truly amazing – 88 pages of comments for and against the Irish. For all the ND haters out there, let me say this: you’re entitled to your opinion, but consider this – what other school generates this kind of attention and scrutiny? Every comment added to this site just verifies what ND fans the world over already know: NOTRE DAME IS COLLEGE FOOTBALL. You prove the impact this school has on the collective minds of the sports world with every comment you write.
This is a God-awful year for the team so far, no doubt (oh, and FYI: for those who claim ND is the only marquee name school to have hit these kind of lows, kindly take a history refresher course and recall the awful USC teams of the 90’s, the post Dennis Erickson Miami Hurricanes, the U. of Washington after Don James left and the current Florida State squad – all teams with national titles on their resumes) – and still, our stadium is sold out every game, our fans still rally behind the team, and yes, we’re still the team that people talk about – 99% of all other programs would merit a 60 second blurb on Sportscenter or get an three paragraph article buried on p.75 of your local paper.
The bottom line is that win or lose, Notre Dame is a special place (and I mean that in the most non-arrogant way possible; stop by campus someday and you’ll see what I mean) with a mystique all its own. Some of you will never understand this fact, and either shake your head in incredulity or respond with open hostility to the Irish faithful who “live in a fantasy land” (hey, last I looked, people were saying that about Boston Red Sox fans for nearly a century until two years ago – and the Irish historically have one hell of a better track record in the winning department than that team!). Why are we confident that things will turn around after a decade and a half of trying? Because we have over eight preceding decades of gridiron excellence to show for what comes of hard work and belief in ourselves. We’ll weather this storm, just as we’ll weather the mudslinging we’re putting up with now – and soon we’ll come up smiling. So please, keep the comments coming about the insignificance of Notre Dame – you’re proving our point with every sentence. GO IRISH!!!
