Why are people saying that DJ ran on pass plays? In both his interview and Weis's they were asked that specific question by various reporters and both said that that simply didn't happen, that every time he ran it it was a designed run. Do we all think they are lying to cover up? I don't think Weis bold-facedly lies to the media that way. He seems to make it a point not to. So why is the consensus here that DJ ran on pass plays? I'm not trying to be sarcastic, i'm serious, it doesn't seem to make sense to me.

For the most part I agree, but CW did say in his presser that there were a few plays that were option passes, none of which he chose to pass on. Actually, I'm struggling to remember any plays other than the 1 or 2 passes he did throw (which weren't option passes) where he even looked downfield.

That's all that I'd meant when I talked about DJ's decision-making - sorry if I expressed the point badly.

Do we want to go back to the Tony Rice and Carlisle Holiday offenses? I certainly hope not. They were boring and we got smoked by defenses waiting for the option. I never thought I'd see a Weis offense that didn't throw the ball well. I hope we go with Jimmy or Evan because Demetrius just doesn't throw well. We have had far too many boring run offenses in the past and Weis seemed to have replenished the passing game at ND - until this past Saturday, that is.

Ummm.....what was that thingy we won with the "Tony Rice" offense? Oh, yeah; a NC. Just to be straight, I don't want to see us running an option either, but if you're going to pick a specific offensive team to belittle you may want to steer clear of one full of national champions.

And yes, I understand that the D was better, there was more talent (arguably) on the offense, blah, blah, blah....I'm making no comparison whatsoever between this team and that one and am in no way advocating we go with the option (we never will, thankfully); just please, if you're going to knock a team, don't knock the one that won us our last NC.

Well, I dunno...if you were to ask me if we should run the Knute Rocke offense, I would probably say "Hell No" too. ;)

Well I guess I need to emphasize for the 3rd time now that I am in no way advocating we should run that offense. My point was that the poster may want to take a little more care in choosing which teams to belittle.

After partaking in all of the rumor-mongoring for the last 12 months, I am ready for it to be done. Let's stop figuring out a plausible way to get all 3 QB's in the game, and give JC the football. We don't need any special goalline packages to get DJ any pt. Let's say we rely on our 5-deep running back stable to punch it in when we get that close, or better yet, our 4 stud TE's to get some touches in goalline situations.

Evan's a reliable game manager, and Demetrius is a WR candidate. JC is the future. Give him the ball.

So sayeth the shepherd, so sayeth the flock.

So let's give him the football that says 'bnad motha' fuc8er' on it and get to Happy Valley. I want my 'nasty' football team I was promised 3 years ago.

But the only ones he said were option passes were Running back run plays, i.e. DJ handed the ball off, not ran it himself. Lemme get the quote from the presser transcript...

Ok, i can't find a transcript anywhere, i guess it's not posted yet, but i listened again and this is what CW had to say

"No we had either runs or passes, well no wait i can't say that, almost, well the ones that were designed quarterback runs they were just designed quarterback runs, ok now on the runs that were given to other people there was always a pass option on all those, but the ones where he was just picking it up and running a sweep to the left you know which is the way we ran most of the time with him, no, they were just get it and go."

I just don't see how watching this you could conclude DJ was running on designed pass plays. I still don't think he should be teh starter, I didn't think he should be before the GT game, but he's not at fault for running when he should be passing.

I agree i have said all along DJ was shell shocked went into thtank as Weis calls it and that does not send a confidant message to the Offensive team. A QB must always look confidant even when bad things happen. DJ was out bouncing before hand then just tubed.
