Great news, but I really never thought he would get fired yet.

Ok Charlie next year HAS to be a great year if you want to come back. Go get it done.

GO IRISH!!!!!

Absolutely

Absolutely

Talent that is wasted by poor, emotionless coaching and the worst play-calling I've ever seen.

That is ALL that needs to be said!! Weis will never take us anywhere plain and simple.

is it me or does anyone else think the handling of this situation is extremely poor? Why would two small outlets find out before larger outlets? They are large for a reason and have the same if not more contacts than the smaller outlets? Why wouldn't ND confirm? What a clusterfuck!!!

It would not surprise me one bit if someone on the Weis side of the deal leaked this information to put pressure on the University.

Now that coach weis is staying does anyone know which assistant coaches get fired, or are they all coming back for another year of F Troop style football.

Mike Frank broke this story.I think his sources are about as good as they get as far as ND is concerned.

Hopefully CW makes the right changes in his staff and gets done what he stated he would do. He has to see that things just have not worked out with this staff. Haywood, Latina, Oliver, and Powlus have to go. Forget getting on Offensive Coordinator unless it is a proven guy, I suggest Walt Harris, he has been sitting for 2 years collecting Stanford money and this could be away to get back in the game for him. If we can not get someone like that, hire a Running Back coach and let CW be the offensive coordinator. Since things are going poorly in Jacksonville, ask Andy Heck if he want to coach the O-line, if he says no ask Aaron Taylor. Get a fired up emotional D-line coach, Zorich would be great. Find a good QB coach that can work on mechanics, CW has proven he can teach a QB about the other aspects of the game. If CW keeps this staff intact, I am not too hopeful for a big ear next year and by big I mean 10 wins. Most importantly I think CW should spend a week with Ara and another Week with Lou. Learn the college game, learn how to get emotion out of the players, and learn how to keep your foot on someone throat when you have the lead.

Great post. Especially spending "learning time" with ARA and LOU.

Why in the world would you tell Mike Frank or WNDU before you told ESPN or the Tribune. That makes no sense. ND needs to confirm the rumors. You can't let this shit fester. It makes the University look bad.

If I were a Notre Dame official ESPN would be the last media I contacted.

Frank is very well connected at ND and has a great rep in the area.I hope there will be an announcement tomorrow just to stifle the rumor mill. We dont need this hurting recruiting as it will if the rumors continue to swirl.

i agree we need this finalized.. I think keeping him is the better move. Firing Charlie would be a bad move right now, i feel we would lose a lot of the recruits and possibly some players on the team. Just give him a little more time, dont throw him under the bus yet (if hed even fit)

If Weis stays then I hope he at least brings in some young coaches that could lite a fire under this team. If the talent ND has and looking at the schedule anything under 9 wins would be a major disappointment

This is really a watershed moment for the program, and it really should speak volumes about what the administration thinks of the program - or rather, what their decision is in terms of making the program relevant again.

Its sad in a lot of ways.

As a supporter, you just don't really know what to do. If your kid sucks at a sport, you just tell them to try something else, but what do you say about the most storied progrtam in college football; try DI-AA? I think not. Yet you've chosen to be non-competitive. I don't know, its really a sorry state of affairs. I don't have an answer.

:soapbox: We better win 9-10 games next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me spare you the suspense.....

WE WON'T

There's nothing special about this offseason to suggest that he's all-of-a-sudden going to "get it" after 4 YEARS.

We can't do anything about it. I'm going to fully support Weis and the boys, and pray they respond to the challenge. I can't go through another year like this!!!

Hmmm....seems like I've heard this somewhere before.

We're dangerously close to being used to this attitude (by conditioning,) and that's an effin' disgrace.

Kevin White would be on the hot seat right along with Weis,if he hadnt found himself a new job.I think he saw this coming. He clearly made a mistake in extending the contract and he isnt the first AD to make that mistake.

Father Jenkins supports Charlie and thats why he is staying.Maybe its because he had a hand in bringing Weis here in the first place. Its all about money at ND.If the seats were empty like we saw with Willingham the guy would be gone. There is a large buyout to contend with too.Hanging in there with Charlie another year may make it easier to land an experienced coach as there will be 4 classes of quality players for him to work with.If Charlie gets this figured out then ND will have turned the corner. The guy can recruit no question.

Weis isnt much liked in South Bend because of his attitude.Alot of stories around town about how Charlie treats people.Coupled with Willingham supporters sniping at Weis people were just waiting for him to stumble.I support Weis but he sure hasnt made it easy.

This is sad very sad, anyone that thinks that next year will be alot better is just silly. Its broken and what will you say next year when we beat Nevada by 5pts or lose to Mich. Its so similar to the Faust days that its eerie. Charlie Weis is a good man and all Notre Dame but guess what thats not head coaching criteria. Next yrs student T-shirt can go with the F-Trope scheme, that was very appropriate. Can any of you folks ever in your wildest thoughts have ever thought we would see the day that an American Icon in sports ( Notre Dame) IRRELAVENT.

I don't think it's necessary for the university to jump every time there are rumors swirling. All the Urban Meyer junk and everything else was mostly put into play by fan rumors and media rumors. It is Tuesday after the final regular season game. ND has stated that they will go over things at the end of the season. Just because nobody believed them isn't their fault.

I know, i know. But we will not win 10 games next yr. And its more about the long haul and can this cycle of a decent team every 4 yrs be broken. There's no consistancy of excellence being shown. I will apologize next yr if we win 10 games but will that be enough if they drop to 7 the next yr. Our schedule has been eased up a bit and except for Oklahoma in the near future this schedule should produce more wins. Problem is the teams that we once dominated are now just plain better than we are.

i think

i think

most of our fans are fickle.......and it's sad. Yes, we did win 11 or 13 National Championships. Yes there have been times where we were the best team for years and years, but every team goes through troubled times. I've heard the legend of Faust and how we had these awesome classes, but then turned out we were terrible. I just don't believe that with the weak schedule next year and fresh and soph being a year older that we can't be a great team. I love Notre Dame, I know everyone on the board does too, and i know the last 2 seasons have sucked balls......but I believe we will Return to Glory!

I didn't hear about Faust - I lived through it. Great recruiting classes, but horrendous teams (but I would argue that the product we're putting on the field today is even worse.) That's right....worse than the Faust teams - that's where this program is.

Faust definitely brought in talent, and we did end up "returning to glory."

After we got rid of Faust.

The current situation with the program is disturbingly similar. Talent coming out the ears, yet we are one of the worst (if not the worst) teams in major CFB on the field.

[NAME REDACTED] is of the Parcells coaching tree, so to put it in terms that the apologists and Kool-Aid drunks might understand:

[NAME REDACTED] is the best there is at shopping for the groceries, but he couldn't even cook a piece of toast if his life depended on it.

Unfortunately, [NAME REDACTED] will soon be taking Faust's place in the history of ND football (if he hasn't done so already.)

Seriously, people. Learn a little bit from history. The discrepancy between talent and performance with this team is mind-boggling. Just mind-boggling. Bring in an even half-competent coach tomorrow and I guarantee the turnaround in performance would blow your mind.

I cant believe this shit. I support the players, the staff, and everything else at ND but not him.

Support the players and staff but not him? What did CW "personally" piss in your cherrios? There are some coaches on the staff that need to go first.. Once those coaches go and if CW is still not prducing then yes we can blame him.

Actually I lived through the Faust years too. The last two years were worse. Worst two year stretch I can recall when it comes to quality loses. But, what do you do? Hope?

If don't win at least nine games next year--and thats not much against such a shit schedule--you CW apologetes had better not breathe a word.

Not a single excuse.
No more apologizing.

if we dont win 9 games next year and be seriously competative in all of them then i dont see how anyone could say anything at all. i am in favor of keeping charlie for one more year and its obvious that we all have different ideas as to what we should do but lets just see how it plays out. im the constant optimist. we come out of this season with a bowl win then great we r making progress. we doubled our win total from last year and next year we should be in the bcs hunt. maybe not for the national game but definitly for a bcs bowl game. if we dont get 9 wins next year then the school will look again at who we could get and who is better than him. 2010 looks to be a big year for recruiting too. it seems as if we are hitting the lineman hard that year.
