It was my first time up there. Had a great weekend. The atmosphere for a big time football game like that with GameDay in town was awesome.
We got up Friday night, unpacked, and went out to the bars. Town was poppin. Everyone was in PSU jerseys and shirts as expected. I even bought one and wore one to fit in for the night. I felt dirty wearing it. Bottom line...these people party hard even with a Saturday like that ahead. We left the bar around 2:15, I ended up going to some girl's apartment I didn't know, and this is where GameDay started getting screwed up. Instead of going to my friend's place, waking up at 7, and getting the signs ready, I went to this girl's place somewhere, got loud, and woke up at 8:30 am. No idea where I was. Someone picked me up, got me back, and when we got to gameday it was 10:30 and I knew i was screwed.
These people have no problem drinking til 4 am and waking up at 7 to get to college gameday at 10, drink all day, and kick off at 8. I realized...shit, I'm not 19 anymore.
It was a friggin blast being close to the set. First thing we did was get our pic taken in front of the bus. Our tailgate was directly across from it. The place erupted when Corso put on the headgear and I made friends with some Iowa fans. I got a lot of dirty looks with the Clausen jersey on, but no one really did anything other than say "f notre dame" or "clausen sucks" so no big deal. Seriously, they're a bunch of pussies. When gameday ended Herby came out of the bus and a group of 20 of us were asking for autographs. I did one better and got my picture taken with him. Unfortunately I didn't have my jersey on at the time. It happened so fast and I didn't have it with me. He's a really cool guy. Desmond came out for 5 minutes but we saw no corso or fowler.
Weather was cold, wet, and rainy all day so we went to a bar to watch the games instead of scalping tickets to get in. And I'm damn glad we did. Everyone I talked to who went into the game was miserable the entire time cuz of the weather and the white out was overshadowed by a sucky offense and poor special teams.
It was hard to suppress my celebrations at the bar. It was hundreds of PSU fans and me. Those fans have no faith. Some of them left with 8 minutes to go in the game when PSU had a chance. Place cleared out real quick. I can tell you that I was the happiest soul in Happy Valley at 11:30 when ND won and psu lost. The entire campus was quiet. Eerily quiet. People were walking with their heads down like kennedy was shot.
All in all...it's a great atmosphere for football, I will go again, and hopefully they play someone like UM, MSU, or OSU so I can really root for penn state.
I'll put the link up for that picture with herbstreit when I get it this week. Wasn't my camera.
