Maybe we'll see a return of Ty to Palo Alto to "Return to Glory!!" again.

He should have never left Pitt. The Big East was on the verge of losing Miami, BC and Va. Tech. He was recruiting well at Pitt. If he stayed, he was in position to possibly dominate in the Big East, with a BCS berth 3 out of every 4 years.

I know he left for money and the lure of the Pac 10. But sometimes the best trade is the one you don't make. If he stayed at Pitt for several more seasons, gone to several more BCS bowls, he would have had better options than Stanford. Hey, Stanford is great school for academics and athletics. But when it comes to football, I don't think we'll see another Bill Walsh come from there anytime soon. More Willinghams than Walshes for sure.

This was only his second year @ Standford. There better be some outcry from the national media over this

I thought he was pushed out of Pitt. Talks of him being fired from Pitt were swirling early in the year when Pitt went to the BCS.

that is correct punishment. he's a good offensive mind, can't really see how you can blame him for this year, the Cardinal must have a big name in mind to replace him. Mariucci? just guessing, no valid reasoning behind that.

That is absolutly crazy, I cannot believe this. I still think he was stupid for leaving Pitt.

he was forced out at Pitt

I believe he more or less Pitt because he felt they did nothing for him and didn't support him. Therefore he turned his back on them and left...in the process upsetting many and leaving lots of burned bridges.

Feel kinda bad for the guy. He's a solid coach who turned around a lousy Pitt program and got them into 4 bowls in 6 years including a BCS. He would've taken Pitt to the next level if he brought in better overall talent, unfortunately he wasn't able to recruit because basically every season he was there he had to deal with the alumni calling for his head. Morelli was spooked by this as were other top recruits.

Stanford is a real mess right now, look for them to hire Jim Fassel. Fassel has told close friends he regrets not taking the Stanford job when it was open last. Fassel's reputation has been ruined now that he's been fired from the Ravens.

I'll throw in my two cents in support of Harris even though I'm not a big fan. I feel that he was picking up a bag of shit when he took over the program. When you combine that with further academic restrictions and the absence of traditional advantages that a school like ND has, I think you should give him more time to turn things around. He did a good job at Pitt - give him a little more time to turn his proximity to the wellspring of Cali talent into success. I see his problems stemming from the same thing Charlie is going to be facing in the upcoming year: a dearth of talent in a couple of recruiting classes from the previous regime (before anyone jumps on me for being a Ty-basher, let me state that I disagreed with his firing; I fully expected that things would not improve much in the fourth year, but I thought that he should still have been given the chance to fail). I am a supporter of giving coaches four years to show what they can do. This sentiment is probably at odds with the current climate of instant gratification, but i advocate giving a little time over knee-jerk reactions.

And how do you feel about the situation now that it's played out how it has?

Look, I'm confident that I'm a great deal happier with Charlie that I would have been with Ty. However, that is my looking at this scenario in an outcome-based fashion rather than idealistically. I freely admit that, at the time, my little heart was going pitter-patter about the possibility of getting Meyer. However, that was with Ty having already been deep-sixed, an event that had already come and gone, leaving me free to look with a hope I hadn't had that year at a possibly brighter future. If you want to say that ND is better off for having done what it did, I'll agree that that is probably the case. However, speaking strictly in terms of ideals, I did not want things to shake out the way that they did.

He's going to make someone a great offensive coordinator next year. The folks at UPitt made a huge mistake letting Harris go to pick up the mustache.
