Huh. Where did you hear that? I just poked around and couldn't find anything about it.

I thought Walls looked okay on Saturday, but not great. I'm sure whatever decision Weis & Co. makes will be the right one, based on what they see in practice and on game tape.

From what I saw, the ball wasn't thrown towards Walls. Which is good for a db. I heard Walls strained his hamstring (from someone in the Athletic Dept.), so that might be it.

Yeah, I dunno. I just saw on BGS that they said that in Saturday's game "Darrin Walls apparently left the game and was replaced by Ambrose Wooden". If it was an injury - during the game or otherwise - then it would be typical of the athletic dept. not to talk about it, so Junkhead's rumor seems plausible to me. Anybody else on campus know anything about this?

My source in the AD said Walls "pulled or strained his hammy", and had it wrapped at the end of the game. I was told this on monday, and didnt get any idea how severe it might be.

injury seems like the most likely reason.. other than what seemed to be out out position ( to me) and beat a couple of times (none completions) he played fairly solid

So I just took a look at the GH thread on this and nobody there says anything about Wooden being ahead of Walls for THIS week: they just say that he left the game in the third quarter, and that he was injured. I do know for a fact that Walls was practicing yesterday:

Defensive backs work on Cover 2 groupings. Darrin Walls goes first among the cornerbacks, followed by Ambrose Wooden. But considering they were working in groups of three with one corner and two safeties, I wouldn't look at this as a depth chart switch. Bill Lewis, though, told Walls to "jam the receiver."

So again, unless you've seen something more than I have - in which case, pass the details along - I'd say there's no reason to think Darrin won't be starting on Saturday.

I did see Walls limping off the field at some point during the game, and I don't remember if he returned after that point. It would make sense that he did strain something.

Someone posted a link to rivals to view an omar hunter video. I saw the link the day after and when i went to rivals, there were two asinine "teasers": 'Wooden In, Walls Out' and "Demetrius Jones working out with... the runningbacks?'

John proved rivals true in their sensationalism when he posted that Jones was working on not fumbling with the runningbacks, not become a runningback. Never got to see anything that mentioned the CB situation though.

Yeah, I'm sure that's a similar bit of bullshit. They probably have some info - no better than what our own posters have told us, of course - about why Walls left the game on Saturday, and nothing more than that. Worthless.

Honestly, I doubt they know about the hamstring. Nice job junkhead, REPS. Once again, we've outdone rivals. Is there any facet of the game rivals leads in?

I'd like to see walls back in there. Sat wasn't a real good game for anyone except maybe trevor laws. Maybe he'll get into the flow of things with the new defense a little better by this week along with everyone else. But if it's Wooden so be it.

Don't worry, it's NOT Wooden ... or at least we have NO reason to believe that it is.

Walls looked ok Saturday.....Lambert on the other hand looked BAD as usual. I cant see how a guy gets burned soooo many times and still keeps his spot. He has made a few great plays but gets smoked more often than not. He rarely turns to look at the ball or even bother to put his hands up. Look for Morelli to pick on him if he plays anything like last week where he was consistantly beaten on almost every snap.

Yeah, this has been talked about a bunch, here and elsewhere. I was pretty down on the way Lambert had played, but people convinced me that maybe I was overreacting. Fact is, he was covering their #1 receiver, and was near his guy on all those passes - he never got TOTALLY burned. But he is a bit undersized, and so on that one pass that was caught he couldn't break it up even though he played it pretty well.

I agree, though, that he didn't look great.

I thought Lambert did a pretty decent job. Except for that one long play where the receiver made a great catch (and Lambert was still in pretty good position on that), he did a pretty decent job. He did give up quite a few short passes that ended up being 1st downs, but he was right there.

I have confidence in Lambert, Walls, or Wooden at CB. That doesn't mean PSU isn't going to complete a single pass, but I think they are all very capable.

There was an article on the Front page of the ND Rivals site on Tuesday or Wednesday that said "Wooden In...Walls Out". It was a premium article so I didn't get to read it. But my guess is that is where all of this originated.

Exactly. I swear they must have people whose sole job is to write bullshit teaser headlines to make us feel like they know something we don't.

There was also a post on the Rivals message boards that hinted at it having nothing to do with the GT game. Something to the effect of, "It has nothing to do with how he played on the field, let's just leave it at that". So who knows. I've heard he tweaked his hamstring from numerous places but I've seen him participating in drills on various practice videos from this week. So who knows.

Yes - he DID get injured, and he IS (apparently) healthy now. There's NO reason to think he won't be starting on Saturday.

I think walls has a bright future ahead of him. The more experience he gets now, the better he'll be in years to come.

I just heard from a credible source who's a student at ND that Walls is saying he's 100% and a "full go" for the PSU game. He did have a small injury during the Tech game, but it's fine now.

Take THAT, Rivals!

While we're at it, though, here's some injury news that I haven't seen being discussed:

Linebacker Joe Brockington appeared to have a cast — or at least a pretty significant wrap job — on his right wrist and thumb. I don't remember him being hurt in the game, but something isn't right at this point, though I wouldn't think it would keep him out of the game on Saturday.

Hmm ... anyone?

I agree. I think the most promising thing about last week is GT only had 1 long drive. They couldn't convert third down conversions which is what killed ND last year.
