Gotta get to Urban Meyer before Florida can lock him in. All ND has to do is offer him the job and he'll take it. He's been in love with the position some time now. Hopefully he'll bring the mad scientist offense at Utah with him.

Looks like the haters have won...lol. Willingham has stepped down. But unless we pick up Meyer, what has ND gained? Even if we do pick up Meyer we might be in trouble. If we didn't have the athletes to run a West Coast Offense, we sure don't have the talent to run Meyer's Spread Offense.

This could be a "Grass Is Greener" situation...we shall see.

Personally I'd take Tedford over Meyer & Hawkins (Louisville). But if we can go off the board, let's aim high & get John Gruden.

Jon Gruden is currently the head coach of the Tampa Bay Bucs and the Irish tried really hard before they hired O'Leary before they hired Willingham. I say make another run at Gruden, then go after Butch Davis. I like Davis as a coach. I think the Cleveland front office is at fault for their tough time. And if they can't get them, there's always Irish alum, Tom Clements to take a look at. All in all, I think we'll end up with Urban Meyer or Butch Davis in the end. We'll see.

Jon Gruden from the Buccaneers (spelled his first name wrong).

Solid coach. Still pretty young, he's got a Superbowl ring, and he was on the staff at the University of Tenessee and Pitt. He's really good with young QB's (Chris Simms, Brian Griese), and his offense is easier to grasp than Meyer's. Plus he's got ties to the school (I think his father was at ND).

I like Meyer, but his offense requires something we don't have a lot of...speed. ND has been slow since even before Holtz left. Whoever's the new HC will have to address that.

i personally dont think that Gruden would leave Tampa because i think that he likes the pros. The guy u mentioned from Cincinatti didnt really have good teams - his record isnt attractive to me. Meyer will probably in the end have to do if we cant get Hawkins here. Good move ND to fire Willingham.

1 Urban Meyer
2 Jeff Tedford
3 Boise State Coach
4 Louisville Coach

Here's an idea...and if it worked, it'd be a real kick in the arse for our lovely rival. What if we went after Norm Chow, that offensive genius at USC who just sits in his booth and watches as defenses are rendered helpless? I believe he has head coaching experiance, and I think since offense is where we're really horrible right now, having him could only help in that aspect. But in all seriousness, if I were in Kevin White's shoes right now, here's who I'd interview...

1. Butch Davis (excellent recruiter, great college record)
2. Nick Saban (see my reasons for hiring Davis...problem is he's employed)
3. Urban Meyer (as much as I like the guy, he hasn't coached in a big market and we all know that jumping to Notre Dame isn't easy...just ask Ty Willingham and why you won't find Bobby Petrino and Hawkins on this list)
4. Rick Neuheisel (yeah, the things he did in his personal life aren't all that good, but you can't deny he was an excellent coach in Washington)
5. Ron Zook (has experiance in a pressure cooker situation, and reacts well to it)
6. Norm Chow (USC Offense...enough said)
7. Jon Gruden (he's so low on this list because he's so unlikely, but nonetheless...)
8. Steve Mariucci (see reason for Gruden)
9. Tom Clements (ND alum, NFL experiance but only at offensive coordinator)
10. Jeff Tedford (even though he's frustrated, he's now got a top team in a top conference and not too many coaches would leave that)

...and there you have it. Some young punk's opinion.

Quick addition...maybe shoulda thought about this earlier. Charlie Weis, the Patriots offensive coordinator, says he's interested and he's a Notre Dame grad. Could make it interesting.
