Thanks for posting these updates Jason. Looks like this class still has the potential to be very special. I'd feel a lot better if we got a few OL commitments. This upcoming game vs USC may very well be the most important game of Weis' career from both a coaching and recruiting standpoint.

On a sidenote, do you know of any websites with searchable high school football game stats? I'd love to be able to follow the game stats of our recruits. Someone used to post weekly updates, but those were the good old days of IE.

In other recruiting news, word has it that Claussen and Rudolph will be in Cincinnati this weekend, attending the Moeller-Elder High School game. If you did not know, Rudy is an Elder alum and Hendrix, the Moeller QB, has vervbally committed to ND. This is a battle between two nationally ranked local teams which have had perennial success in the Greater Catholic League, along with the other local powerhouse, St. Xavier which is also nationally ranked. Last weekend, St. X beat Elder to hand them their first defeat These 3 schools have been dominant forces in Ohio HS football for more than 30 years. The 3 schools are ranked 1,2 and 4 in the city. This year, they have only 2 losses among the three. Both teams are stacked up with D1 prospects ,including a few still being considered/considering ND. Maybe, the presence of JC and Rudy will be a postiive influence on the prospects. Almost like a "reverse" campus visit. At one point, it was believed that CW would also attend. Not sure now.

We need to send them down to a St. Thomas Aquinas game in Ft. Lauderdale, we could really use Linder, Riggs and Bernard.

Added:
CB Toney Hurd

There were rumorsthat Hurd was going to commit but he denied them. Despite that it appears the Irish made a great impression. Despite his size, he is very physical and could also play safety.

Updated:
OL James Stone
OL Brandon Linder
CB Joshua Shaw
CB Cody Riggs

Dropped:
WR Kenny Stills
WR Bobby Swigert

It appears that ND was too late and an offer naver came with Stills. Swigert does not seem to be on the radar anymore either

Looks pretty good man, I appreciate you doing this because it makes things a lot easier. If we get two more higher rated corners to commit like Joyner and Shaw, do you think we just take one less safety? I think we need as many athletes in the secondary as possible. I wonder how player interest and signings will affect how we handle some of the 5th year guys.

Jason, this is great. I really look forward to your updates.

Also, I tried MaxPreps, but it seemed like every player that I searched for came back with no stats. Said something about the coach not inputting the stats for that team.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to subscribe to something to access the stats?

Maxpreps is generally good, but they do depend on the coach of the team to enter the statistics. Some coaches choose not too.

The truth is that Notre Dame probably wont get both Joyner and Shaw. Originally i believe the staff wanted 3 safeties and 3 corners. The guys i have rated high are kids i believe will eventually commit. Overall, if we catch some breaks we will likeley end up with the original goal in our secondary. Probably 27 or 28 commits. This is shaping up to be our best defenseivehaul ever. That says alot considereing the talent we have brought in the last 2 classes

Hey finally decided to join. Is 27-28 possible with the current scholarship count. I thought there would only be 25 available, assuming no transfers or people leaving early. I am also assuming Wenger, Stewart and Walls are granted 5th years. Thoughts?

Welcome aboard big head. This years class has been expected to be a big class. Usually a school should averag around 22-25 a year. 27 would be high but early enrollees like Tai-ler Jones, and Chris Badger count toward last years haul. Last years class was smaller than the staff would have liked so it works out.

Weis is very smart when it comes to recruiting, he knows what he is doing.

Thank you.

I know we will have EE's however we are only allowed a maximum of 85 total scholarship players, of which we are using 82 currently I believe. So even if they enroll early is still counts toward the maximum of 85.

So for this next year we would have:
3 - 5th yr Sr. (my assumption from before )
17 - Sr.
22 - Jr.
18 - So.
25 - For any incoming scholarships

Does that make sense? I trust the coaches completely and I am sure they will take who is needed just some food for thought though.

Assuming no one leaves early

11 SR's (this includes redshirts)
16 JR's
21 SO's
11 FR's

So that gives us 26 Scholarships available. hmmmm i dont know. You got a point there

What's your opinion on the staff asking someone to be a walk on (Ex: Brandon Walker), if another recruit wanted to join?

Good question, I wonder if that's allowed per NCAA rules (I've never heard it practiced). IMO it just doesn't sound like something the staff would do, promise a scholly and back out. I know teams can pull offers to recruits, but even that is considered bad form. It could hurt us with recruits in the long run.

I do not believe the staff would ask a player to pay his way. Taking more than 25 players is not a NCAA rule. Alabama and other SEC schools are notorious for taking 30+ players. Usually a kid will end uptransferring, not passing admissions or gray shirting. Neither of these options seem likeley with how Weis has ran the program.

There is still a chance this will not be an issue but if it does i guess we will just have to see

Do we have enough room for all these players? No!

So I guess we have 11 spots open but that also depends on how many guys we bring back. I hope Wenger, Stewert, and Walls are brought back because they will be needed. Which means we have 8 schollies left.

This is a great problem to have!

I hope we land (this is also most realistic, I think):

Wr: Prater
OL: Linder, James,
DT: Nix,
LB/DE(where ever he plays): Barr,
S: Reily, Amerson,
CB: Shaw,

Give or take a few other players, this class should end up being pretty good!

Depends on who is givin a 5th year.

We have 11 spots open.

Those 11 must be a combination of 5th years and the class of 10'.
