One of the reasons I read from this site is the right on knowledge of most of the guys and the tip of the hats to other good teams while being Irish. With that said the way Notre Dame is presented by the sports media sucks and I would like comment on my view. I may be wrong. Was it just me who thought Gary Danielson grudgingly gave props to Notre Dame while saying Harrison Smith was luckey and Miami was playing dead. Was it just me who thought the CBS crew just paid little attention to a nice win and 4 good wins in a row. Of course this team is still short on across the board talent-the culture at the school is different than other places- its still college not a semi football pro team. But the issue for me is how grudgingly they give the Irish a few nods of the head. What are they afraid of-let me tell you, they are afraid of a school doing it right with the largest national following in the history of college football getting up from the scrap heap and horning in on their lucritive college football scam. They are afraid of Notre Dame tapping into its vibrant past with the ability to acquire the talent needed to become a dominant team again. I dont know if Kelly can do it but this team under Kelly will make noise on the national level. When that happens be prepared for all the ploys to belittle and dampen Notre Dame's success. They dont want Notre Dame on a roll out there calling its own shots. To put it in plain words they are afraid of Notre Dame. If I were in their position I would be afraid too because it looks like Notre Dame may be back to competing for BCS bowls and maybe just maybe a shot at the title in a few years. I think they're afraid of Notre Dame success. It makes their @$$#$ squirm just a little in their seats.

I agree. CBS is tied in with the SEC, I was criticized for for not liking the CBS coverage. The only thing I would like to see is some honest coverage of the games. If ND is playing badly then critique them as such, but by the same token if they are playing good it would be nice to hear some praise. The CBS post game coverage was praise for QB Morris and how Miami will regroup.

CBS and the SEC are not afraid, they still rule CFB and the SEC pretty much dictates who goes to one side of the national championship game every year. Why would they be afraid of ND success when they broadcast their games every year? Makes no sense.

I thought Danielson called a fine game, as usual. He's one of the best in the business.

Yes he is one of the best and yes he does call a great game-comments on luck/fortune and Miami tanking are in my opinion his soapbox view as a guy who is paid by CBS to tout the SEC. My feelings on them being afaid of Notre Dame are based on what do you do with a Notre Dame team that is like TCU this year. Because TCU is not Notre Dame on national cache'. In my opinion they like Notre Dame stuck in mediocrity because they dont have to deal with popular opinion that such a team would move out their automatic berth in every tiltle game. Notre Dame when excellant screws up their whole deal, as I have said before its like blazing saddles and their phoney baloney business. I am not saying Notre Dame at this point belongs in the same game with Auburn/Ala/Fla in past years But I am inclined to think they dont want Notre Dame out there playing championship football because they are independant and not under any direct affiliation. If Notre Dame was undefeated you tell me who the nation would want in the National Championship game-Oregon/TCU/Auburn or Notre Dame. I think the answer is Notre Dame vs one of those not Notre Dame on the outside. In years past the SEC was slighted and they now no how to play the game, matter of fact they now control the game thru media and a great sell job. Yes they have won 4/5 NCS games so it makes their jobs easier and my opinion seem irrelavant but Notre Dame when excellant is as important as their whole conference and they dont like that.

Honestly, I don't know what your comment here has to do with how CBS and Danielson/Lundquist called the game.

I think CBS/ABC announcers don't really know much about ND football. Every game I saw that was on abc/cbs had ND names screwed up, and misinformed stats. I think the lack of knowledge of ND plays a lot in some broadcasts. Also, you either hate or love ND. I don't think it's a network ploy, rather some biased views of ND from commentators.

All in all it doesn't really bother me. I don't even pay attention to what they say very often.

They're a lot better than the old Hammond/Haden duo.

I love Mike Mayock, though. He's very insightful.

The 1st half Danielson was really talking up Notre Dame. The second half he probably just gt bored.

This is all part of climbing out of mediocrity. ND's irrevelance was self inflicted. Brought on by bad coaching decisions starting with Bob Davie. This is the price that is paid when you are not in the spotlight. However, that being said hopefully we are on the right track. I posted last year before the season started, that I would prefer a steady improvement similar to the one Holtz engineered in the 80's as opposed to the "Flash in the pan" starts of Willingham and Weiss. 8-5 is not great, but it is a major improvement. It is something we can build on. If we improve on that next year then perhaps announcers will have more respect for us.
