According to Weis's presser, Tyler will not have surgery. Any surgery done will be a career ender. He will enter a rehab programthat will get him ready to play but he will likely need to be in it his entire playing career.

That is terrible news! That means he will have that pain until he has surgery!

No it means he will never be able to play without some pain because surgery means he can never play again

Not exactly.

As I heard the presser, the type of surgery they (Eifert family and his physicians) were considering would have ended his career. I don't recall Charlie saying "any surgery" nor specifying the type of surgery.

Last recruiting season I believe I posted in Eifert's recruiting thread that he had a disc problem, again unspecified. Some disc problems can be rehabbed.

IF the procedure they were considering was fusing vertabrae I believe that would eliminate football. My wife had that procedure done on her neck vertabrae. (No, she can't play football but she was cleared to ride roller coasters.)

I don't understand how Eifert could do the lifting that is so integral to football conditioning. Time will tell.

I wish him well.

Yeah the surgery that was supposed to have taken place would have ended his career. Weis did say that he will have to continue his rehab as long as he plays. I have a feeling that he will be another Own Schmidt. Its too bad for a kid with alot of potential, but i hope he proves me wrong.

Damn. Who is Owen Schmidt?

A Seattle Seahawk FB who busted his head with his own helmet.

I assumed you were talking about ND's FB Schmidt who had to give up football due to concussions.

That's OK. I though you were auditioning for an NBC ND Announcer's slot.

Sounds like an injury which may prohibit him from seeing the field which would be tragic for all parties involved. Wonder if USC would drop him? We won't. Good thing he's getting and ND education as well. Take note recruits! Insurance is never a bad thing.
