Troy Smith on the day:

12 of 19 for 185 yds
4 TD passes
1 INT

Brady Quinn on the day against Air Force:

14 0f 19 for 207 yards
4 TD passes
0 INT

Me thinks BQ is right there running neck and neck with TS.

The ABC announcers were shameless, basically said that Troy Smith already won the Heisman.

Statistically he is doing well enough, but its the EYES OF THE VOTERS that matter more. He's losing there...which is too bad.

I hear yeah. Well, at least come NFL Draft Day, BQ will take home alot more cash than Smith ever would.

They don't vote so the heck w/them. I think most are saying it's Smiths to lose, but Quinn is right their to take the hand off. It will be close. But I think if you ask Quinn would you want the Heisman or all the millions of extra money going in the top of the NFL draft I bet I know what he would take.

What, have your cake and eat it too. Sounds good to me! But don't you feel a little bad for Troy? We really should get him something. Maybe a new cell phone since he had to give his back to the boosters that bought it for him.

They put up similar numbers but bottom line is Troy Smith is undefeated and doing it while BQ looked subpar in the loss to Michigan. We will see this coming Sat. if Troy Smith is the real deal, if he falters its BQ's for the taking.

I don't think any one is questioning if TS is the real deal. He sure has had good games against UM. He's 40-60, 5 TD's not INT's and he's never lost to UM.

Smith has two games (Illinois, Penn St) in which he was worse statistically than Brady was against Michigan. He has no 300 yard games this season. Quinn has more rushing TDs.

And on, and on.

I do too. If Michigan posts a blowout, and USC beats Oregon and Cal handily, and we post a big win in SoCal... rematch. But that's a lot of ifs. I just hope that awful Florida team doesn't get the bid.

Let's look at it this way is the Heisman really that great to win? ever heard of the Heisman curse? Name the last HT winner to accomplish anything in the NFL. Ricky Williams was a great RB in the pros until he smoked himself out of the league, Carson Palmer's been good for a year and a half now...Leinart and Bush are still rookies so I guess only time will tell. But besides these guys name one Heisman winner since Barry Sanders that has really done anything. Let Smith win the Heisman get screwed by the curse and BQ make his millions.

Heisman is the most prestigious individual sports award in the US. We list them alongside our national championships- we don't list our multi-million dollar contracts.

I don't think he'll get screwed by the curse, I think he'll just fail b/c he's not a pro-style QB. Same as Jason White. Had nothing to do w/ the Heisman though.

Sorry but when Eric Crouch has his picture up at the Downtown Athletic Club I have my doubts about it being the most prestigous individual sports award. Plus, I don't hear Tifger Woods saying," Man, I got these four green jackets, but I would trade them all for a Heisman." Its the most prestigious individual award in college football not in all of US sports.

And Rex Grossman, the starting QB for a 7-1 NFL team, would give just about anything to have won that Heisman. People never forget Heisman winners, however forgettable they turn out to be.

Troy Smith will only lose the Heisman if he lays an egg against Michigan (unlikely), and if Quinn has a great game against USC that results in a victory.

Otherwise, the Heisman is his to lose.

That's complete nonsense. Smith only has the advantage over Quinn as it is because his team is unbeaten, while Quinn has a loss. Smith has less impressive numbers (slightly) than Quinn, and has played two games statistically worse than Quinn's worst game. All Smith has to do to lose the Heisman is lose to Michigan, and Brady beat USC. And Brady wins the Heisman. That Illinois/UNC week really opened the race up again. Throwing picks in consecutive games, while Brady hasn't thrown one in 5 games or so, doesn't help.

Really people never forget? quick name the Heisman winners from 90-95? Just saying ever since the award was all about who could generate the most hype through the media and not actually about on field performance, the Heisman doesn't mean as much. And I think "Sexy Rexy" is just worried about not turning the ball over 4 times tomorrow.

Realistically, Smith has to be the cause of the OSU loss to lose it he has to have a bad game. OSU just losing the game doesn't matter as long as he plays well. and you can't straight up compare Smith's numbers to Quinn's, different styles of offense will determine different stats. The fact that OSU has basically shut down the offense after the 3rd quarter in half their games also skews the passing numbers in BQ's favor. smith hasn't has to put up big numbers so why should. Where as BQ has basically had to win four games for ND this year.

You are VERY right.

I feel bad for BQ...he really deserves the Heisman as much as Troy Smith...but the OLine let him get crushed at the UM game.

He will cry all the way to his multi-millions I guess. ;)

Oh trust me, I agree with this. I was just making the point on why Quinn's numbers are better then Smiths, they have had to be. I think the fact that Quinn has single handily won like half our games should play a big part on why he should win it. The Heisman is all about media hype not about numbers. The media has been slobbering Smiths nob since the Texas game and he really has to blow up against Michigan to lose it. The trophy goes to the best all around player not the leader of the best team. You put the Talent that Smith has at OSU around Quinn and this thing wouldn't be close. Quinn has done more with less. My final argument for Quinn is this, its all about the best player...Paul Hornung anyone?

the heisman is a curse to the player. never forget that. it's an overhyped award. to me, the problem is that the heisman is won on 50% merit and 50% hype most years. It puts a huge burden on the winner to be the best when they really might not be the best, only they were a leader on the best team in the country (a la Troy Smith this year). In fact, you know what the heisman reminds me of? The ring in the the lord of the rings, an object that as much a burden as blessing. but, then again, i'm a nerd...
