A plebicite is just that. Have one and sort it out. That simple. They did milder versions in Scotland and Wales. They can do a more definitive one in N.Ireland. Pure population, no counties...just 1 man, 1 vote.
If that only includes the 6 current counties, you know the outcome already. And that's the only way those in power will have it. There is no way in hell that they would allow the entire population of the island to vote on a single referendum. Even the "agreement" were 2 separate elections. The results of those might even support the obstructionists resolve to prevent an all-Ireland election. Throw in the results of the last AI election and it's even more fodder for the moaning majority in the 6 counties. Hell, they wouldn't even allow a referendum with the historical 9 counties voting. The border was drawn the way it is for a reason and the status quo must be maintained in the eyes of those who approved of the border.

I hold contempt for anyone who believes blowing up babies is a politcal statement or solution.

That includes all the paramilitary organizations involved in N.Ireland. Whether it the UVF or IRA.
does that mean the govts get a pass ("murder isn't murder when it serves the State so well") or did you just not list them? They've passed on personal information & employeed those you have contempt for....they are equally to blame.

The vote should be two elections:
1) Ireland (as it stands to day)
2) N.Ireland

This is not a county by county vote, this is a plebicite of the whole populace.

Ireland would need to accept N.Ireland and N.Ireland would need to vote to leave the UK.

Honestly, I could see it happening in the next 30 years were the unification to be considered seriously and thoughtfully. Right now, the two regions barely deal with one another...it's very sad.

In my heart I believe that the Isle would be best off if it were unified...however, it's up to the people as a whole to decide. It's not a religious decision it's about self-determination in a political sense.

I don't believe that governments ALWAYS get a pass. I do believe that governments get a PARTIAL pass when executing military assets in self-defense. (was Dresden justified, for instance? I believe Hiroshima WAS justified. Dresden? Not so sure.)

I can't say that the UK or the RUC has stayed within those bounds. The RUC is dirty. The UK government has a lot of blood on its hands. The US does as well, since (for a time) a great deal of funding for the IRA came from citizens in the USA.

It's an ugly scene all around...
