Looks like Torre will be fired and Pinella will be hired as his replacement. Cashmen flew down to Tampa to try and talk the Boss out of it, but the Boss is said to be extremely livid about losing to Detroit. Daily News reported that the Boss has had it with Torre and will fire him.

Personally I think Torre should step down, rather than be fired. Torre's a great coach, but its time for a change. I just don't think he gets through to the players anymore. Texas said they would be very interested if Torre gets fired.

Yanks will probably trade A-Rod, the Angels and White Sox are said to be interested, White Sox could give the Yanks a pitcher, and prized third base prospect Josh Fields, the Angels would offer young flamethrower Erwin Santana, at least this is what's being rumored as of now. A team will only have to pay ARod 15 million a year because Texas picked up a chunk of that salary, at 15 mill a year ARod should entice a lot of interest.

This is all anyone in the NY media is talking about today, I guess they forgot the other NY team is in the NLCS..

Not just the NY media... The national media too.

This reminds me of when the Pistons routed the Lakers in the finals, and 90% of the subsequent coverage was about the Lakers' soap opera.

Oh, well. The Tigers can still achieve a Flyover Country dream season. If they survive Oakland and face the Mets in the WS, they could eliminate 2 NY teams (and one from Cali) in a single post-season.

For which their immortality will be assured.

The failure of the Yanks lays mainly with big Stein. He assembled a great fantasy baseball lineup and forgot about his pitching staff. Mussina and Rivera can't pitch everday. And the Moose's playoff pedigree isn't that great anyway.

If Jared Wright is pitching the close out game of a series your team has SERIOUS pitching problems.

That said my Mets don't have any starters either.

Funny how Torre doesnt hit, pitch, or run, yet the media gives him the majority of fault.

A-Rod - 1-11 .091.
Giambi - 1-4 .250
Shef - 1-8 .125
Judas - 3-14 .286
Matsui - 4-16 .250
Cano - 1-11 .091

The problem up there ain't Torre... it's Torre's boss, who year-in-and-year-out continues to believe that if you can just bribe all of the best invididual players in the league to all come to New York City, you will automatically have The Greatest Baseball Team Ever. They have ZERO team chemistry, and yet Steinbrenner seems completely unable to figure this out. He'll fire Torre, trade A-Rod for next year's The Greatest Baseball Player Ever, and flame out again in the divisional series next year and fire Piniella. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Nothing pleases me more than the recent trend in almost every sport of a team assembling a group of good-but-not-quite-great players together, getting them to gel as a team, and then going out and winning a championship, while other teams loaded with superstar talent implode in the postseason. Recent entries include the New England Patriots, the Detroit Pistons, the Texas Longhorns and pretty much all of international basketball against the USA.

Steinbrunner had an unexpected spasm of common sense this afternoon.
Torre will be back.
Cashman's whereabouts, however, are currently unknown.
Authorities are silent.
The dredging of Tampa's bay is due to commence shortly.

Joe Torre is not making the decisions there. For the most part, neither is Brian Cashman.

Steinbrenner's group of "advisors" down in Tampa are pulling the strings.

Torre did not bring in Rodriguez, Pavano. Wright, Randy Johnson or give Bernie Williams a ton of money on a long term contract.
