Tom was better known as half of "Click and Clack", the Tappet brothers. These guys were genius at turning one of our biggest collective pain in the asses, our vehicle and the people in our lives who expressed their opinions about them, some times loudly, into a humorous shared experience, guaranteed to brighten your day.

I must have listened to these guys, off and on, mostly on for about twenty years. Before my father passed away ten years ago, we always had a good chuckle with their antics. The world is never a better place without humor, and we lost more than a measure with Tom passing!

Great show, I was disappointed when they stopped doing the show a few years ago. Seeing that he had Alzheimer's disease, I can see why. RIP.

Loved their radio program -- just listened to them last week on NPR (although it might have been a re-run). Sad news indeed. The Tappet brothers were two intelligent, witty guys, likeable guys who added humor to a topic that didn't really lend itself to it. I'm not a car guy and not very mechanically inclined, but these guys kept me coming back for more. RIP Tom.

He didn't have Alzheimer's, his transmission just got too much sawdust in it.

This show was a ritual for me on Saturdays.

People were amazed that too grease monkeys were so articulate. Actually the brothers were both M.I.T. grads. Tom was an engineer with a PhD in Marketing. He had a mid-life career change and opened up a self help auto repair shop. The business grew into a full fledged garage.

A local radio station was doing a segment on auto repairs and invited several garage owners to participate. Tom was the only one that showed up. The audience loved him. The station invited him back and it evolved into the NPR show.

"Click and Clack brought to you by the law offices of Dewey, Cheatum, and Howe."

Goodnight Tom. Thanks for the memories.

I'll never forget the drives up to South Bend listening and laughing to car talk with my dad. Especially loved the "puzzler" part of their show. Two smart and funny dudes, and Tom will be greatly missed.

For those who have never checked them out, go download some of their podcasts. I'm sure I'll be listening to them for years to come.
