Maybe it was a slip of the tongue. Maybe it was a brain cramp. Maybe it was reverse psychology, but Pittsburgh fans have to hope that their new head coach has a better working knowledge of the players he is facing Saturday night than the coaching staff he is squaring off against.
"Originally he hired David Cutcliffe to be the offensive coordinator from Old (sic) Miss," Wannstedt said of Weis at his Monday press conference. "They have a new coordinator, but they did bring in a guy from Old Miss. Bernie Parmalee's coaching his running backs. (He) was with me at the Dolphins the past two years."
Cutcliffe, who came from Ole Miss, was Weis' original quarterbacks coach before health problems prompted him to resign in early June. Michael Haywood has always been and remains the offensive coordinator. He also coaches the running backs. Parmalee is ND's tight ends coach and special teams assistant.
