Yes Denison was from the south and Jones was fromVirginia. But would you rank them as great backs in college. Would you rank them as the one of the top 10 backs in college at the time they was playing. What about Bettis and Waters these are the great one in my life time and neither one is from the South. Now Denison was one of my favorite but he not no Championship caliber back. Now yall go and do some research and look at the great college back that came out of the south in the last 10 years. Until then stop them dumb ass homer responses to my thread.

As far ND goes...If I'm not mistaken Autry Denson is Notre Dame's all-time leading rusher with something like 4318 yards. So, although he may or may not have been a Top 10 college back, statistically he's Notre Dame's top rusher. Denson averaged 95.9 ypg in his career, which second to Allen Pinkett's 96.1. Denson numbers are better than the likes of Bettis and Waters in college, check the stats.

Great (by great, I mean productive college careers not, Top 10 finishes among yearly leading rushers) college backs out of the south since 1999 (so what, seven years)...Thomas Jones, Shaun Alexander, Jamal Lewis, Travis Henry, Duece McAllister, Clinton Portis, Edge ('98...I think), Willis McGahee, Lee Suggs, DeAngelo Williams, Julius Jones, Carnell Williams, Ronnie Brown...I didn't even go back ten years or include the likes of Cedric Houston, Mewelde Moore, Cedric Cobbs, P.J. Daniels, Eric Shelton, Frank Gore, Jerious Norwood, Gerald Riggs, Ciatrick Fason, or Andre Hall (all of whom are in training camps across the US right now). Believe me, there are many more RB from the south on NFL roster than this.

In that list...A 2,000 yard back, NFL TD leader, and I don't know how many Pro Bowl appearances.

I don't think a region of the country has more NFL running backs than the south. I live in the south...I am not a big fan of the SEC, but I don't believe their is a conference in college football that has better RB than the SEC. If someone could please prove these statements wrong...I wish they would.

So, there it's over. ND may not have the best luck with southern backs; however, one is their all-time leading rusher. But the South produces both great college and NFL running backs...you do the research.

Is it just me or is anyone else really confused, by what he is/was claiming he did/didn't say.

Southern Backs. Wake up

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why do yall be putting so most hope on them southern backs. Name the last good one we had.

this is the headline from your first post.
What I gather from this statement is that you seem to think that southern backs are hyped for no real reason. (Why do yall be putting so most hope on them southern backs.)
And that ND also doesn't have success with southern backs. (Name the last good one we had.)

After this I just give up.

What more do you need out of a back than to be the leading rusher in school history, and another who is on track to break that record?

ND has had great success with southern backs. Has the NFL had great success with southern ND backs? That's a completely different question. If that was your point, that's the point you should have made.

But your point was ND's success with these backs. Well, while wearing ND colors on the college football fields, some southern backs have indeed been great.

Bottom line it was a stupid uneducated post....its like saying why is ND looking at QB's from PA there have never been any great ND QB's from PA.

if you don't think that Jones was a great back then you need to get off of this site and start following pop warner or maybe just give up on football completly.

I would say really really good not quite great because he shortened his career with the Irish by leaving school....I couldn't have imagined him all 4 years playing at the level he did in 2000 and his senior year. But he is def. on my shortlist of all-time great backs, the kid was a stud.
