I can only imagine the dismay that ensued in the USC war room after Manti chose the Irish today. How is it that even with all USC's recent success...the national championships, the NFL draft picks, and perennial monster classes, you find kids like Manti, Shaquelle, and Cierre picking ND instead? No matter what Pete Carroll does, no matter how much he wins, at the end of the day, its USC...not Notre Dame. I hope everytime he looks in the mirror he thinks about the fact that Notre Dame has things that he will never be able to offer. USC will NEVER have the integrity and honor ND has. Believe it or not Pete, some kids would rather be a true student athlete then become an NFL thug in waiting. I'm not saying today was any kind of tipping point in the battle against USC, but it showed that good can triumph over evil, and a kid can make a decision with his heart and mind no matter what USC has to offer them.

This better translate to wins on the field. This class wasn't ranked high, and we could have gotten a couple more DL but the past two defensive classes have been unreal.

you are right, this is all for not if the defense doesn't get a huge lift from this. The defense's weakness is definitely up front, but the linebackers and secondary is seething with young play makers. I can't wait to see this group next year. Its time for this team to take the next step.

I find it funny that on Espn's recap of NSD under USC they talk about the players that USC lost. They failed to mention that they lost the #2 overall to ND. Mention a wr and lb, but where is M.T.?

Do not feel sorry for USC...they pulled in another top 5 class and got more 5 stars then I care to count. Until we beat them on the field again, steeling 3-4 recruits from their backyard the last couple of years mean jack crap!

If we beat them on the field we will be able to steal more than one or two a year from them. I've always said the day we beat USC is the day the tide changes at ND. Go back and look through history.

lol...bet you $10 they won't be 5 stars before NSD. Hell Cierre was the #3 overall on rivals and dropped 70 places after committing to ND.
