Maybe of more interest to former students than Subway alums in general, but the ND club of Gettysburg had Sr. Jean as their Hesburgh Lecturer this past Friday night. Held at Gettysburg College, I was glad I went over to have a listen. Sr. Jean is something else and it's easy to see why she's so respected on campus.

While her lecture topic was how things have changed for women at ND (she was brought on to the faculty to run/coordinate the efforts as the university went co-ed in 1972). Many of the stories she related appear in her book "Loyal Sons & Daughters" which is well worth reading. I bought a copy from her Friday night, came home and read it from cover to cover before going to bed around 3AM. She did about knock me off my chair when she told us how Fr. Ted told her that he thought the church should ordain women! An old traditional stickler like Fr. Ted being so progressive (I believe Fr. Joyce had the same opinion).

Anyway, it was a great time, she's a wonderful women and without question, a credit and an asset to ND. If you ever get the chance to hear her speak...don't hesitate.
