He also announced that James Aldridge is doubtful with a high ankle sprain. Let's give em a full dose of Robert Hughes and Armando Allen god dammit.

I'd love that. But can you really advocate that, if they are averaging 1.x ypc, at halftime?

I think they give us the best chance at the win. Finish the first part of the season 2-6, then bye week, get healthy, Clausen wins the final 4, then a bowl. We go into next season ready to go with Jimmy running the show.

Good for him. Let's beat those sumbitches.

It'll be tough if Aldridge is out, though ..........

Lets see some creative play calling...let AA throw one again....reverse on a kick off..someting to mix it up...How about Kerry Neal or Brian Smith as a lead blocker on 3 and short

Do you think that if Evan beats SC this week that we would REALLY turn the ball back over to Jimmy for the 'cupcake' part of the schedule? No way. If Evan did not get the ball after the UCLA victory, I have no reason to believe there would be a double standard.

We win, Evan finishes the year. Then hold your collective breath, cuz Jimmy might be done in South Bend.

Sorry, but I don't buy that AT ALL. If - and I think this is highly unlikely - Sharpley holds on to the starting job this year as well as next AND Clausen gets passed up by Crist in the meantime, I could see him transferring. Short of that, I think he has enough class and confidence in himself to wait his turn.

Yes and no.

Yes - running the ball at the defense the entire game wears them down. Running the ball lends itself to more of a possession/control game; it keeps the clock running and generally takes longer to move the ball down the field. Even if the gains in the first half are small, IF we're wearing the defense down, the running game should pick-up by the end of the game. The compliments of a running game to the passing game are obvious too.

No - if we are behind (again) by significant amounts, losing the time of possession stat, and losing yards in the running game, then all of its benefits are not working.

I dont buy it, the first guy to congradulate everybody on the field for the first TD of the BC game was... Jimmy Clausen. The kid has class, he has confidence, he knows his time will come and when it does... watch out.

The media has used Jimmy showing up in a limo to announcement day to imply he is a glitzy show-off (from what I read the real reason was that there were 14 people in his party and they all wanted to go together and that was the only limo that would seat 14).

His attitude at press conferences shows what a quite, reserved, respectful kid he is.

No knock against Jimmy. If he's a little beat up, give Evan a chance to jump start the offense. I personally believe that he deserves his shot at it! Good luck and go Irish!

Agreed...Jimmy has appeared to carry himself with a level head and a great deal of class since he stepped foot on campus. Ultimately, I think the best thing for him and his future at ND is not to let him throw a pass the rest of the season. Get whatever is wrong with that throwing arm taken care of, and focus on kicking ass next season and creating a CLEAR separation from Sharpley in the spring game and fall practice.

Still, I just think it is hard to take the starting job away from a guy that leads you to 5 victories to end a season (utilizing best case scenario here to make a point). What if that happens, and we happen to win the Poulin Weedeater Bowl vs. Sisters of the Sacred Heart? At that point is it fair to take the job away from Evan, based on who practices better?

I'm fired up for this weekend. But I think that this is a game that may define the future of Notre Dame Football (at least at the QB position)...regardless of the rivalry with SC.

The plays that Evan made during the game were the plays that was purely instinctive (like that pass to John Carlson for a first down). Evan understands pressure, understands being wrapped up but also still trying to make a play. He reminds me a lot of Garcia, how until Garcia is on the ground he always has his eyes open looking for the closest target. These are the things Jimmy will learn, espcially as he bulks up and is able to stand in the pocket even with guys wrapped all over him.

Things will look good, and I honestly think we stand a chance of a GOOD start for once in a game with Evan behind the wheel. I'm looking forward to USC, and of course, defeating them.

Congrats to Evan he deserves it. Hopefully he does well, and leads us to victory. Clausen just needs to keep his head up, he has great talent just hit the weightroom like a madman, and learn the playbook so he can maximize his abilities (the ones that made him the top prospect). I think he would be willing to wait his turn at ND if need be. Both are class acts, and I will stand behind whoever Charlie decides gives us the best shot to win.

I agree. I thought we were going to see Evan at the start of the season anyway. I was thinking that Jimmy may be pushing for time at about this point in the season. Not the other way around...

Most of what's happening now is what I expected when the season started. This is how I thought the team would look coming out the gate.

But then again I get paid in the 5 figure range and last coached basketball in a church league, what the heck do I know.

Weis has repeatedly said that the competition between them is very close. That being said, if Sharpley looks sharp against USC, it's gonna be hard for Jimmy to surpass him unless he makes a misstep. The whole thing looks pretty complicated from that point on, as you'd want to keep the competition open, because in honestly Jimmy might have more pure talent than Evan, but neither do you wish to oust an incumbent starter simply on the base of practice time and not game time. We'll have to see how things go, but I'm sure Weis will handle it in a professional and efficient manner, as is his wont.

Nice points. For some reason, I really liked his brothers at Tennessee, and as an ND fan I was (silly as I feel for typing this) "honored" that the younger brother chose ND. Watching replays of some of JCs short passes, I see that they are sharp and precise and give the receiver a chance to catch the ball in stride and take it for more yardage.

I just think the team plays better with Sharp. He will finally get his chance this Saturday. Exciting stuff.

Clausen will be in before half time, look like the savior when he leads us back from 17-0 deficit, and forever the story of the next Great ND QB will be written.

I'm not looking for glory this year. I just want competitiveness.

Regardless, is anyone else tired of hearing "He gives us the best chance to win this game" from Chaa-lee? He said that about Jones in the GT game, Clausen therafter, and now The Sharpenator.

super excited that Evan FINALLY got the starting job. Something that should've been done when the season started.

Actually, Weis saying what he is saying is coaching. He's trying to be honest with the media, without either kid feeling like he has no confidence in him. What is he supposed to say, "Well, I think we would suck less with Evan in there"? Or, "Well, Evan couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in practice, so I don't want to start him and end up in an even bigger hole at halftime"? Weis' first obligation is to the team, not us fans. You'd probably hear much different words coming out of his mouth, if you were his buddy and you guys were out golfing. Look at the circus the media created, over the starting QB, during fall practice. You think that a goatfuck like that would be good for the team, during the season? We all want him to give us a no-bullshit, honest assessment of the QBs. But the truth is; it's a situation he has to handle delicately, or else he completely loses either one or both of them, and probably splits the rest of the team as well.
