Schlabach at it again.

Can you believe this? He makes an argument about all conferences needing an internal playoff which then degenerates into a 6-pack of reasons as to why Notre Dame needs to join a conference period, quit scheduling soft, quit taking money, and/or stay out of the BCS. Can you imagine if he was an actual expert on every other team in D1-A and (apparently) not just ND? This guy is killing me. He spent a good 1/8th of his "article" on one team.

Thanks for listening...again.

I agree with what the guy says about college football regular seasons not being "watered down" or "less important" by adding a playoff system of some sorts, but Notre Dame does not need to join any conference, IMO. He's just another hater hatin' on good ol' ND.

Notre Dame Join the BigTen?

Why? They have history with a FEW teams in the BigTen (UM, MSU, and PU)...but of course the BigEast is a better fit given that ALL other ND athletics play in the BigEast.

Surely you know this right? Or were you just stirring the pot.

But let's face it, if ND joins the BigTen it's the end of the USC-ND rivalry...that would be a big loss to college football. It would also end the ND-BC rivalry too I suspect. ND joining a conference would kill ND as a football program, since it would no longer be a NATIONAL team.

It would also lower it's strength of schedule dramatically in many cases. Playing in the BigTen would at least be beneficial in that regard... For instance, this year ND's schedule was not as tough as previous years and Sagarin ratings had ND in the top20 of Strength of Schedule. Most years, ND is in the top10. Moving to a conference would at least make life that much easier for ND since they could sink to the scheduling levels of most conference teams.

Didn't ND already end the ND vs BC rivalry....once the few already slated games are played...thats done...and we pick up rutgers instead

It's not just Rutgers. ND will be playing two to three Big East teams a year. However if ND joined the Big Ten, then they would probably have to cancel the scheduled games with BC to make room for the conference schedule.

Rutgers or not is irrelevent, the point is the BC rivalry is going to be done with anyway

Yes I understand that....hence the whole...games that are alreadly slated...however, there was a big hub bub about how we would not be continuing the series once those games are played...

Did you miss all that...

We shall see in 2013. However, I would bet we renew.

I'm believe we tried to join the Big Ten (or whatever number it was back then) way back when (I can't remember the exact date), but they didn't want Catholics in their league. Thus, we are not in the Big Ten, and I hope we never are.

Because there's no playoffs, the schedules are watered down because of the ramifications of a loss. Think of how much better the matchups would be if a team could suffer a loss and still not be out of NC contention. You could take the 1 AA team a year rule out entirely.

I'm atheist and I still hope it never happens. They want us in the conference because we're a big money draw but didn't want us when we were less popular so screw 'em.
