Does anybody have a ballpark idea of what Minter makes?

More than likely, Crennel would get a defensive coordinator job in the NFL somewhere. At least.

Take a look at these numbers for ND:

87th in pass efficiency defense
56th in scoring defense
50th in rushing defense
45th in total defense

And ND played Stanford, North Carolina, UCLA, Army, Navy and Air Force.

Doesn't add up. How can you argue with this?
It appears that we are all in agreement that the Defense stinks and that something has to be done to correct it. Many opinions have been offered from "lack of talent" to FIRE MINTER.

What has been almost never offered is the fact that Charlie Weis is the Head Coach and is ultimately responsible for the success or failure of the team. If the Defense has to be corrected, and we all agree with that, it is his responsibility to do it. If it is a lack of talent it is HE who must get the players. If it is Minters fault Weis must do the firing. ( if he takes this course I would sugest firing Oliver too) Certainly Weis sees the same things we see. Other than move Thomas to LB I am a little concerned that nothing was done doing the year to correct a situation that got progressively worse.

Like everybody else I am anxious to see what happens after the season and I look to Weis for the solution. It has been said that Minter (and Oliver) have not recruited the talent necessary to produce a top Defense. If that is the case I expect Weis to correct that. If coaching is the problem I expect Weis to correct that also. Weis is the man now and we have a right to look to him for the necessary changes.

And the defense is about to lose 7 starters.

That means that 7 guys that DID NOT START for the 45th ranked unit in total defense are going to start next year.

I hope that Haywood and Vaas can handle the offense because the other side of the ball, as well as special teams, need to find a consistent groove.

speaking of special teams.... where was the coaching for the punt return unit? we blocked the gunners MAYBE 5% of the time. punt return was awful. why could we not block a gunner ALL YEAR LONG?

Yep. But Price gets credit for making the sweet play of shoving the substantially larger man that was blocking him into the return man to save a touchdown when ND punted the first time.

Maybe losing the 7 starters off the defense isn't that bad a thing. Very possible the new 7 guys might have more speed/talent than the outgoing 7, which would mean an improvement in the defense!!! I also think Charlie will make changes in the defensive coaching staff, which would also help the defense.
