Here is a post from the South Bend Tribune on Wednesday...it was a Q&A session held every Wednesday...Jeff Carroll writes for the Trib.

Sammy: While not necessarily your playground, I had a question regarding recruiting. Manti T'eo is scheduled to visit this weekend. There is additional internet chatter that a big name, one committed to another team, will also be in town. Care to speculate on how that is? Hint?

Jeff Carroll: Hmmmm ... I do know who it is, but I also know that there have been some promises made to keep things quiet while the player gets his visit plans lined up. I hate to keep that kind of stuff from people, but when another reporter gets information off the record, I can't violate that.

i'm going to be flying all this weekend. sfo to dfw saturday and dfw to norfolk, va on sunday. i'll be missing 1) the nd game 2) the cowboys game and 3) any good news about commits. i'd rather but clicking refresh all weekend than having no access to my favorite things. can't wait to see if all the speculation is true

I might as well say what I've heard and what another poster who PM'd me heard as well. There are major rumblings coming out of here that Matt Barkley, QB commit for USC and the reigning Gatorade Player of the Year, is taking a flight out of Socal tonight and coming to the ND game tomorrow. The guy has an absolute cannon for an arm. I even went to the Rivals message board (I never frequent other boards but I googled it just to see if anything bit), and they say the same thing.

Now, I heard this from a USC student who helps me at work and who is a huge fanatic of this stuff. He swears it's true, but that Barkley ain't going to decommit. I agree, the kid has been SC from day one, but the fact that he might be coming out here is intriguing. Again, just a rumor, and I may be way off, but this is what I heard and this is what the Rivals board said as well.

(BTW, the USC people are killing the person who first posted this. Damn there are a lot of ND haters out there. That's why i can't go to other sites. Too many damn nonsensical idiots...)

seconded wow. i couldnt imagine a barkley decommitt leading him to sign with ND, but if there was ever a team with his kind of people then it's ND. we've already got two high profile socal QB's. maybe he would feel at home in that environment. then again, maybe he wants a free trip. and then again again, it could be rumor.

ouch! my brain shortcircuited. too much speculation. monday should be interesting

If this started where I think it started, this sounds like the rumors started by non-USC fans on message boards. They've already been debunked. I wouldn't put too much faith in this.

no, there is a "surprise" visitor(s). I'm just seriously doubting it's Matt Barkley.

I say "surprise" b/c many have already figured out who it is.

I agree, especially the part about taking a red-eye after a playoff game. But I'm just saying what I heard from 2 different places. I laughed myself, but I won't lie to having hoped that it would be true. My hate for U$C grows daily!

Exactly what I was thinking. I agree that it could be great if he came...but only if he is truly interested. It just seems a bit odd to me that such a high profile long-time USC commit would decide seemingly out of nowhere to visit ND.

Try this scenario on for size...Petey sends his golden boy recruit to ND for a "visit" on the same weekend that one of the top prizes in this game we call recruiting is visiting. On top of that Byron Moore another USC commitment is set to be on campus. To be honest with you I would prefer NOT to have 2 USC commits in Manti's ear while he is on OUR campus. I hope this Barkley rumor is dead wrong!!!

So who all is on campus this weekend? Is the "surprise recruit" here? I've been reading and trying to follow, but i just want to be sure.

Yeah the surprise recruit is there. Byron Moore who is committed to USC.

well i hope they enjoyed watching players being hit by snowballs, sub freezing temperatures, and an incompetent coach and team...i'm sure they'll be committing any day now...
