I don't get it, according to rivals100 we are currently placed 50th in team rankings, but according to scout.com, we are ranked 30th...while according to Tom Lemming we could be in the top25 before it's all over. How can there be that much of a difference?

If you were to ask me..I'd say we are closer to 30 than we are 50. I don't get the differences either though!

On rivals you tend to get higher rankings just by the number of commits you get. Thats why I don't follow rivals team rankings to much. Lemming and phil steele do the team rankings the right way, position by position, and the quality of guys coming in.

The way rivals sets it up ND would rarely be in the top ten. Because its rare you see ND bring in 25 or more kids each year like some schools do. When looking at the Rivals team rankings I like to look at the teams average star rating.

For instance last years class on rivals had on average of 2.90 stars and 18 commits. And ranked 32nd. But when I went by the star average ND ranked about 24.

Washingto State for example ranked 25th last year on rivals. They had 28 commits 10 more then us, but had an overall lower star rating 2.61.
Rivals needs to learn its more about quality, not quantity.

Yah i noticed that too - but i definetly believe that ND will have a top 10-20 recruting class this year...btw thanks for the info

Also looked back at ND's 2002 class which ranked 24th on rivals. That year ND had 18 commits with a star rating of 3.56, there were 13 teams ranked higher then ND that had a lower star rating. Including Mississippi St which had a team ranking of 17, and 30 commits, but only a star rating of 2.90.

So the quality of ND's class that year was top 10 top 15. Thats why I don't like Rivals team rankings system. Your better off with Lemming.

The rankings are unreliable anyway. I am more interested in what other schools offered any given kid a scholarship. I hold a top-50 player with offers from Miami, USC, and Ohio State in higher regard than a top-5 player with offers from Toledo, Indiana, and Duke.

The rankings are always somewhat bogus.
