I do not know if anyone has already made a thread for Ernie, so if so feel free to move this there. It is very sad to see a great man and baseball man go. RIP Ernie.

Growing up in Michigan, Ernie Harwell was the baseball voice of my youth. Going to sleep to the sounds of Ernie and Paul Carey broadcasting a night game on the radio as a boy is indelibly etched in my mind. I know NDOM can relate.

I can remember a no-hitter that Walt Terrell almost pitched against the Angels in '86 that was broken up by Wally Joyner in the 9th. Listened to Ernie call the entire game on the radio. What a lost treasure.

God bless.

I can so relate. And I remember that game too. I was listening to the same game at the same time. How crazy is that? He will be deeply missed. The local sports radio stations did like a 3 day tribute (which was a bit much if you ask me, 1 day would have been plenty) for Ernie.

Ernie was the voice of my childhood too. He was kinder in person than you would have imagined.

Ernie broadcast the first game I heard on the radio as a youngster. He used to amaze me on how he knew where everyone at the game lived (.....a man from Paw Paw, Michigan caught that ball.....).

I'll never forget being in northern Michigan on vacation with five other families and listening to Ernie and George Kell call a 21 inning game against the Yankees (probably 1960 or 1961).

He will truly be missed by all baseball fans.
