Tale Of The Tape: Notre Dame Vs Alabama Or Georgia

Above is a link to a article on 247 which goes through 51 current ND players and first of all looks at whether they received an offer from Bama or Georgia and then what additional (if any) SEC offers the prospects had. According to the article there are 5 ND players on the list who received an offer from Bama, although for some reason I can only count 4. What interested me about this is that (assuming I'm missing the 5th person in the article) including the 5 on this list there are only 2 others I could find on the roster who had an offer from Bama, Kiel and J. Jones, which brings the total to 7.

A lot of people use offer lists, particularly offer lists containing Bama, to get an idea of a recruits talent-level. So surely it has to bode well for the future that by my reckoning we currently have 6 players with Bama offers committed to our '13 class with only Mattingly not looking 100% solid at the moment. With Notre Dame also currently looking to be the likely destination of Alquadin Muhammad, that would make 7 in this class alone which would equal the number of player on the current roster who had an offer from Bama. And if that wasn't enough one of out '14 commits (Hayes) has a Bama offer and while Martini doesn't currently hold one was supposedly he was a priority for them in their '14 class so an offer may be forthcoming.

I know a lot of people have probably been noticing it but I jut thought it was interesting when I actually looked the numbers up.

Interesting, thanks for sharing.

I think it's a little inconsequential though to look at things like this unless the kid is from the south... because those schools tend to be very regional in their recruiting with only a few exceptions. The article talks about it at the end when it says: "With the above numbers being said, the SEC doesn’t typically recruit outside of the Southeast because quite frankly they don’t have to. Many of Notre Dame’s players did hold offers from the likes of Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Stanford and USC." Good examples:

Cierre Wood - 4:s:/5:s: guy from Cali... had offers from all the schools out there... but 'Bama/Georgia can go get a 5:s: guy from their neck of the woods.

Manti Te'o - they knew he was never coming to SEC country so why bother?

It's quite interesting to see though how few recruiting battles ND gets into with southern powers besides Florida, FSU, and Miami... while we're constantly battling west coast schools and midwest schools for players.
