Thus begins the era of Herring, the player:

"Now my Dad can wear his blue and gold hat around town with pride and put that ND license plate on his car. My Dad told me a secret after I made my decision final. Notre Dame was his dream school that he wanted to go to before he was paralyzed. God always works things out! Now, I can play for both of us!"

"The day I made my verbal commitment, the University of Florida called Coach Thomas and asked about me. Later Gator, I'm part of the Fighting Irish! It may be Great to be a Florida Gator but there's Nowhere Else but Notre Dame!"

David Nelson you listening?

I'm really beginning to think Urban really has it out for ND. He went after Nelson and Wilson real hard, even though Florida had never offered the two before Urban arrived. ND did low ball Urban, maybe that really pissed him off. At first ND didn't match Florida's offer, and ND wouldn't give him 6 exceptions. Urban left that meeting with ND very pissed off ( source, Mike and the MAD Dog Radio, they have lots of ND sources.), I think he's still out to get ND.

I'm not saying Urban shouldn't be after guys that ND are after, but he's goin after Wilson, Nelson, and even Herring. All guys that Florida never had any interest in.

Urban really has a chip on his shoulder, bitch ass....

yeah dude, hes been trying to snake all of our recruits recently and its pissin me off. i think all the "urban legend" hype went to his head and he thought notre dame wasnt good enough for "his skills". but come this season, he has another world coming to him facing alot tougher competition.

He hired our recruiting coordinator (Mattison), get over it. What pisses me off is that he cried foul when people went after HIS verbals at Florida. That does make Urban Meyer a hypocite.

Still, we hired the recruiting coordinators of Wisconsin, Texas, and South Florida, and a fifth of the staffs of Ole Miss and South Carolina. How many guys on those teams did they call? I reall don't know, but I suspect quite a few.

Mattison said he wouldn't be part of the recruiting for Wilson, thats what he told Wilson's father.

Urban had said it wouldn't be right for Zook to go after his current commits, so why would it be right for Mattison to go after our recruits.

personally, i think it's fair game. if urban wants to go after our verbals, go right ahead. and any recruit that he can sway from ND - good riddance. i don't think that type of recruit is good for ND - the type of guy that can be so easily influenced by a flavor of the month coach like meyer.

there's no honor among theives. until a letter of commitment is signed, a recruit is fair game. that philosophy might not go in ND's favor this year, given the staff transition, etc., but in the long term, i like our chances with C-Dub and the staff he's put together. let the poaching begin!

Hehe, yeah dude, but sometimes I wonder about Mike Fransecha's "sources". I don't know, I love listening to that radio show, but I wonder how connected those guys really are vs. how connected they make themselves out to be sometimes.

I don't know how many of you watched the little video clip that goes along with the article, but that kid is ready to play some ball. Can't wait to see him on the field and I wish him the best of luck.

He is the 37th best player in "talent rich" Florida, the official state of ESPN football: http://sports.tbo.com/sports/recruiting/top50.htm

He is also the 8th best dback recruit.

The recruiting guru's discovered Herring late. They mostly had him as a two star player, wasn't his fault, he played for a high school that doesn't have any compettition.

But he had the offeres from ND, Tennesse, Georgia Tech, Florida showed interest late, the recruiting guru's quickly moved him up the ranks.

He's a sleeper.
