Just saw that right after I posted the Coaches poll. I dunno how we make jumps like that but hey I will take it.

I think its because everyone else looks like crap. LSU, Georgia, Ga Tech all should have lost. Iowa, Mich, Ohio St Did. Oklahoma stinks!

Mark May was dead on though when he talked about Brady Quinn. Brady is not very accurate and cannot throw the ball down field with accuracy. It has yet to be seen how he reacts in the 4th quarter is behind!

Is this going to be in every thread I read, because so far it has been. Point taken.

We're 2-0 who cares what Mark May says. Brady hasn't had to throw it down field, Because guys are open all day long underneath. I'll take 6 and 7 yard short passes, over a 50 yard incomplete pass. Last year we went deep a lot and it worked out so well for us.

Mark May hates the Irish, I can see it in his body language when he is forced to talk about them.
Lou Holtz, by the way said it first that Quinn needs to work on the deep ball. Every one else jumped on the band wagon.

I think it's because the press and the coaches often take their perceptions of ND to extremes. Its either completely irrelevant or the location of the greatest turnaround in college history. They're worse bandwagon jumpers than typical ND fans.

I don't think we are a Top 10 quality team; we haven't shown the offensive consistency yet, and we are not keep enough to survive injuries, especially on defense. We've still got a long way to go, starting with a Michigan State team that will be amped up to take advantage of an overconfident Irish team, if we're not careful.

I hate it when we get these kinds of huge leaps this early in the season, because they can raise expectations to an unrealistic level. The same thing happened in 2002. IMO, we aren't Top 10 until after we see how we stack up against Purdue on the road and SC and Tennessee at home.

Word of advice the rest of the year: Listen to Herbstreit and hit the mute button whenever anyone else is talking.

Herbstreit is the only one with a lucid thought and he has already stated that ND will return to prominence within 2-3 years once recruiting gets rolling. I'll take his word for it because he's the only one with any sense of football and how the game is played at the college level.

Flat out agree with this.

Ditto. Also, pre-Pitt game Herbstreit was stating he thought the Irish would be better than what the nay sayers were predicting.

Herbstreit was going nuts Saturday for ND. He flat out said that in 2-3 years the recruits will be coming to CW rather than him seeking them out. The system is designed to make offensive players NFL ready and the defense plays a team scheme that exploits individual strengths and masks weaknesses of each individual. KH said any WR recruits would benefit from going to ND in particular.

He's very honest and impartial. Everyone else has agendas. He has even picked against OSU and is honest with himself about the team despite is allegiance.

And he has picked the last three or four national title games correctly, including OSU over Miami.

No he's not. He picks the Buckeyes to win every single week.

I recall him taking Iowa to beat them last year and they did.

He admitted last year they weren't as good as they should have been. If we're going to say that everyone on ESPN is unprofessional and biased, stop watching them. It is a waste of time.

Well, Ohio St. is favored to win most games. I pick them almost every week too.

Herbstreit's knowledge and professionalism are second to none. No one else on that network even comes close. He and Jay Bilas are true professionals. He has allegiance to OSU, yes, but he doesn't spoon feed the audience. The fact is, when the crew is in Columbus he gets a huge response and for good reason. I think he does a good job of keeping his obvious alumni status on the far back burner.

And he is already touting ND is a very positive manner, pre Michigan.

Herbstreit is more critical of OSU than other teams. He goes out of the way to be impartial. He said he truly believed that OSU would run the table this year and go to the Rose Bowl -- good for him making that prediction bc he believed it.

Their schedule was set up for them to do it...and they still can. A three point loss at home to Texas in September is not going to hurt them badly if it is their only loss. They may even meet up with the Horns again.

Ohio State will pound Iowa into the tenth level of hell when they come to Columbus. Sorry, but they won't get away with not having a running game this year. Welcome back to Earth, Hawkeyes. And as for Michigan, I don't think they're that good and though they will improve by the time the game rolls around, I like OSU to go up there and beat them. Tressel has done well against UM. OSU and Iowa kids will play harder than the candy ass, Tom Lemming press clipping kids in Ann Arbor.
