Well, Kelly just confirmed one of my suspisions for upcoming position changes. Harrison Smith is headed back to safety. This is good news!!! I believe that he needed help on the mental side of the position and Kelly will see that happens. Further, we need his speed in the secondary. The best part of this is that Hayseed has two years of eligibility, so we have free safety set for two years if he develops like I expect. This makes it a position of strength.
This is strictly my "OPINION". I believe we will see many positions where multiple players will be used at positions until the most solid player is determined.
OFFENSE
QB: Crist
RB: Allen will likely have the most carries, but Hughes will be a factor. Further, Cierre and Riddick will get PT as Kelly said. Gray is the guy who probably loses out here.
TE: Rudolph, but expect to see alot of Ragone. I think Ragone's speed will be a big assett in this offense.
WR: Floyd, Kamara, Goodman, Shaq, Deion, Jones. I believe we will see many WR combo's, but Floyd is the go to guy.
OT: Romine and Dever, but we might even see Trevor Robinson moved to LT. He is the most talented upper classmen we have.
OG: Stewart and Robinson. If Robinson is moved, I believe we see Nuss and Watt fight this out.
OC: Wenger. Do not be surprised to see Cave and Golic get some time this season.
DEFENSE:
NT: Ian. This is the easiest to start with. Hafis plus Newman or Stockton could get some time. I am hopeful that Nix is just too good to keep of the field.
DE: KLM and Ethan Johnson. I believe we will see a three man rotation with Cwynar playing many minutes. I think we will all be surprised by the production of this trio.
ILB: Teo and B. Smith. I believe that Brian will need to become more consistent or Calabrese and McDonald will be breathing down his neck. Calabrese was my sleeper of the 2009 class, so I expect to see him make some plays this year.
OLB: Filer and Fleming, the Chicago dou. This is the year I see these two blossom. They have too much athletism not to excel. Motta is going to be the third man here getting lots of PT. Neal will see time, but he does not have the speed of these two or Motta.
S: Hayseed and McCarthy. I expect to see Kelly turn Harrison into a solid free safety. The kid has the speed and athletism. He just needs the mental part. Further, we need our best 11 athletes on the field and Hayseed at OLB means we have too many of the best athletes at OLB. I also expect to see McCarthy play strong safety with Slaughter getting some time here.
CB: Walls, Gray and Blanton. They will all play a bunch. I would like to see us avoid putting Boyd or Lo Wood on the field to preserve their 4 years.
