Yesterday the Phillies clinched the number one pick in the draft. Later this month the 76ers will begin their third consecutive attempt at the #1 pick. The Flyers also are set to start their season this week after being among the bottom 5 last year. And the Eagles just put together the most pathetic last drive effort I've ever seen comprising of a few sacks as well as what can only be described as an insulting effort at the cal-standord play. They now sit at 1-3 after Mr. Big D*ck Ego Chip Kelly decides to totally dismantle an electrifying playoff caliber team, that was literally perfectly fit for his scheme....

Not much to cheer about in the City of Brotherly Love.

I created this thread because I know their are a lot of philly fans on this site. With the current state of the sports in the city please feel free to incorporate elements of the "What are you drinking" thread in here as well.

Yea he has really rearmed the farm with some young talent, especially on the defensive side. Although he's been getting a lot of praise I saw an article to comparing the two on their first years, remember Holmgren took this team worst in NHL to conference semis in his first season. I don't know, but things do seem upbeat and the Flyers definitely have the best chance to have some success this year out of all Philly squads.

Difference is how Hextall and Holmgren have done it. Holmgren traded for Hartnell, Timonen, signed Briere, so he added money. Hextall is stocking picks/talent in the system which will be here for 10+ years, not 5-7

But like I joked in the NFL thread, what are your guys opinion on Chip? I was an unwavering supporter coming into the season, but imo their is no excuse for completely dismantling one of the best offenses in the NFL and putting this shit show on the field. I think he might be feeling some heat if the struggles continue till the end of the season.

We weren't going to win a championship with Foles as the QB. Look at how Bradford played today. Probably the best QB play I've seen by an Eagles QB in years. Some of those throws were insanely accurate. The more time he gets with the young WRs the better he will be. The defense, even though it sucked on the final drive, is much improved and very young. They are fantastic against the run. Think they died at the end because they were on the field for 40 minutes which obviously is the offenses fault. 90% of the problem is run blocking. If the OL was as good as last year we would be undefeated. Chip severely underestimated how much losing Mathis would hurt, plus Peters is aging. Need to spend all our cap/ top drafts picks their next offseason.

Overall Kelly has built a very talented team that would be a Super Bowl contender if he didn't make mistakes along the OL.

Not just run blocking, pass blocking has been just as bad. Gave up 5 sacks today, and I agree when Bradford has time he gets it down field but those opportunities are rare.

Pass defense has improved slightly, but still one of the worse pass defense with only a game and a half against a real passing threat. Run defense was great last as well.

But his first moves as general manager have been atrocious. Maxwell is the 5th highest paid CB and he is average. Demarco Murray also 5th highest paid at his position, hasnt just been mediocre but also our third most effective back. Algahor hasn't even accumulated 100 yards total over 4 games, I know he is a rookie but its not unrealistic to expect a 1rst round wr to make an immedate impact.

He basically had to overpay Maxwell or we were absolutely fucked. Murray was stupid. A Mathews, Polk, Sproles backfield would have been fine and he could have spent the other money on OL. I feel like Agholor eventually turns into a 1000 yard WR and now we are set at both WR spots for a decade but I really do wish we went OL instead. Feel like WRs are easier to find.

The Sixers have the brightest future of any team in the city. Think about that.

Outside the city might be surprised, but Hinkie's got a pretty supportive base here in philly. Most fans, including myself, understand and accept what theyre trying to do. Now if Oakafor is a bust and embiid never sees the court leading them to take another big man next year high in the draft then he might face some serious backlash.

I'm actually kind of optimistic in the 6ers this year. I think they win ~30 games with Oakafor running away with the ROY award, I don't think he's the best from the class but he will put up solid 17-9 points/rebound line.

The one thing going for the philly teams is that the young talent/farm system is prime for all the teams except the Eagles. I love what the Phillies did this year and all of he prospects they received absolutely killed it in our system. I think the hamels deal will turn out to be a steal-- Eikhof (sp?) already put up an identical line as hamels did after the trade.

Doesn't matter if you're watching Pop Warner or the NFL...if you can't run the ball you're not going to have much success. It's painful to watch.

Flyers been playing well winning 4 out of the last 5. More telling is that they are 4th in shots per game so far after being in the bottom 10 last year. Although they've still struggled to find the net as they are 21rst in goals per game (same as last year). However, that should increase as long as they keep up the shots.

Also Eagles got a big game tomorrow. Its not do or die, but a win would really put the Eagles in contention and solidify them as contenders.

winning at Dallas on Nov 8 is bigger then this game but yeah, this would be a huge statement early in the season.

Yep. Really pushed the play too, best they've looked against the skirts in a while. Night and day difference from last year so far

Figured I'd give a little update:

Eagles made Jamies Winston look like a Pro Bowler.

Flyers are the worst scoring team in hockey, 3rd most goals given up, and 2nd worst goal differential.

76ers remain winless. Oh, and surprise, surprise Jahlil Oakafor and Nerlens Noel can't play together.

Improvements all around!!

Improvements all around!!

Flyers won 4 straight before losing last night and 5 of 7 overall, starting to play better.

76ers won their first game against the Lakers; Kobe on his "good-bye" tour season is putting together one of the worse seasons in NBA history and solely destroying any chance the 76ers have of retaining the Lakers lotto pick this year.

After losing 3 games that most fans chalked up as gimme wins (Miami, Tampa, Detroit), today Chip Kelly walked into Bill Belichick's office and took his "Greatest Coach in the World" plaque, out masterminding him in the process; Sam Bradford proves he is the greatest trade in Philly history since Steve Carlton. The Eagles are gonna win the superbowl now they are the greatest thing ever, I was a believer the whole time. For real though, if washington loses tomorrow they will be in a 3 way tie for first place and could probably win the division at 7-9 splitting their last 2 games by winning only the divisional games left.

Assuming Belichick lost on purpose cause he doesn't want to see the Giants in the Super Bowl...

seriously though, congrats. solid win. Eagles played a pretty clean game and obviously Pats did not. Nothing fluky about it. Eagles played solid, and Pats looked like butt until there were 7 minutes left. Wish we went hurry-up more often even with our scout team offense, but oh well...
