We just got beat by one the best teams in the country last night fellas. Not just beat, but beat down. You can hold on to all the moral victories you want, RE: we held them to 5 FGs, but the fact of the matter is that we never had a chance.

For any of you who were counting on an 8, 9 or 10 win season and were serious, you were smoking some hard dope. Hoping to get there is another thing. In less than a year we had a new coach, a new offense, a new defense and a new QB running said new offense. In 4 games we have seen some terrific moments, some good moments and a lot of bad moments. We have seen some **** poor officiating some questionable play calling and a couple of head scratching moments.

We have everything going against us this year. But there is hope. That team that beat us last night is 4 years removed from being 1-11. Harbaugh came in, introduced his system. The players bought in and the record improved. They are now the cream of the crop in the PAC10.

Kelly is here and probably for the token 5 years. We knew the defense was bad, we had hoped to see some improvement and for the most part they play a lot harder than in years previous. However, saying that, I have never seen so many plays where the D seems to not know where they should be. The consequences of Charlies offensive juggernaut recruiting is that the defensive cupboard is bare for the most part. Kelly is changing that. Once we get our D sorted out and our offense doing more than 3 and outs and putting the D right back on the field, everything else will fall in to place.

In closing, don't sweat it. It will turn around.

Is that bolded statement a shot at me? :)

And I really dont see anything that tells me "It will turn around." Maybe in 25 years from now when we finally decide to not create a tough *** schedule.

no cussing anymore? This place blows.

There are plenty of other sites to go to.

Great post Phork. NDOM...there were people saying the exact same things at Alabama, ND, Stanford, USC, etc etc etc the first years of their great coaches...hell, even in year 3 in some places (i.e. Stanford fans after last year's Wake Forest loss; many fans wanted Harbaugh gone). Change is a process, not an instant. Only spoiled fans who want everything right away (instant gratification disease) don't see that.

Now, I understand that this sucks (really, really bad) and that we've been saying these types of things for years. But Kelly is building a foundation. You don't construct a building from the top floor down, it's the other way around. He's changing things and building from the ground up. I see definitely see signs of things improving through the first four games (Stanford was simply scheduled at the worst time), and while it'll take a while, this team will win. (if we had SC's schedule, we'd be 4-0 too. In 4 weeks, they'll be calling for Kiffy-boy's head. Look at their next 5-6 games. They're toast. But I digress)

Here's what I see happening from here on out: We're going to beat BC, guaranteed. Something is going to click and we are going to win that damn game and players will start to believe.

We're going to take that confidence into the Pitt game and win that one too. All of a sudden we're 3-3 and out of the gauntlet phase of our schedule. We roll Western MI and Navy (yes, Navy) and play a tight one against a Tulsa team that will give us fits, but our newfound confidence will get us through.

Suddenly we're 6-3 and the nation is noticing that ND is on the way back. Unfortunately we play Utah and they're a damn good team and we lose that one.

Then we hammer Army, and we're staring at USC with a 7-4 record. We walk into the Coliseum and beat a depleted and poorly coached USC team, springboarding us into a decent bowl game and a very good 2011 team.

If Crist stays healthy, I firmly believe this will happen.

I think.

Great post NDinLA, I agree with you 100%. We have had a hell of a tough schedule to start and I have felt from the beginning that the BC game would be the deciding game on where this season goes. Good to see that everyone has not thrown in the towel yet. Go Irish!

Except that Stanford is not the cream of the crop in the Pac 10. They will lose at least 3 PAC 10 games. Stanford is a good team, but will probably end the season ranked 20-25. Michigan and Michigan St. won't even be ranked. So, there is some reason to be worried that this could get worse.

Stanford is one of the three best teams in the conference, right up there with Arizona and Oregon. If they beat Oregon, Stanford could win the conference. Hell, if they get lucky they can make the national championship game.

They are a well-coached football team, led by one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Their offensive line is outstanding. I was amazed at their run blocking. They ran that toss sweep several times, and every time we had guys flying to the football. They had one blocker for every man, and they blocked every single one of them, every single time. They never missed a block on those toss sweeps. They have an aggressive defense that tackles very well. Armando Allen was bottled up at the line of scrimmage on half of his carries.

And of course, they have the most underrated coach in the country, Jim Harbaugh, who has done more with less, arguably, than any coach in the college football.

Correct, at #9 in the nation, they are the cream of the FBS.

UCLA has won consecutive games against ranked teams, but looked totally inept against the Cardinal.
