offensive line

I am going to take some heat for asking this question since it has been asked so many times already but here it goes anyway. Why has it been so difficult to improve the offensive line. I do not understand but it must be so much more complicated than I can ever imagine. There has been very little success at a running game, and I would have thought it would have been a top priority during the off season. Please don't tell me that it is a work in progress and to just be patient. Your thoughts would be appreciated. Please don't beat up on me.

The offensive line has been playing much better, both in comparison to last year, and in looking at the week to week progress, this year. ND's running game has not been great, by any stretch of the imagination, but you can see the holes getting bigger each week. This is why you have to actually watch the games, instead of just looking at the box scores, like most of the ND haters do. The bottom line is that the running woes are not all on the O line. The backs are not exactly the studs they were supposed to be, coming into ND. I would love nothing more than to see ND running the ball with the same success that they had in the Holtz years. But the game has changed, from almost 20 years ago. I'm not going to tell you that it is a work in progress, but I will tell you that they are just a couple of pieces away from having a very good running game. They will not have the same running game as your father's ND, though, in Weis' tenure. Weis likes to throw the ball too much. Which is fine with me, as long as they win.

There is SOME improvement. Not much but SOME. The pass blocking protection is way better than 08. That being said it has a long way to go. I personally havent liked Latina since he has been here and I have said that every year religiously!!!!! I wouldnt mind at all seeing him get the boot at the end of the year. I guess I may be willing to give him 1 more year to see what he can do with the talent we have this year but are underachieving in alot of aspects.

I'm willing to give Latina one more year, but if the line isn't one of the best in the country next year (assuming Young comes back and the others stay relatively healthy), Latina MUST go. We must show significant improvement, especially with the running game!

Latina needs to go. We won't get to the next level until he does. When an average Pitt DL rushes 3 and is in Clausen's face most of the day I don't see a whole lot of improvement. Some but some isn't enough. Get Aaron Taylor or someone who will get this OL headed in the right direction. Once we get an OL capable of opening up some running lanes we won't have to be so damn dependent on Clausen/Tate/Floyd winning us the game every week.

That would be nice!

The line has been a proble for a few years now. Brady had to run for his life his senior year. Latina can go....and take CW with him

The line has been weak since Latina took over. He needs to be shown the door now. If CW can't see that, he needs to go himself.

Junkhead - agree totally. After we rehired him last year, I started to question Weis's ability to see talent. We need a new offensive line coach, and....

what is Jappy Oliver doing with the D-line? What is Tenuta doing to help us get penetration. They had all night to throw, and are blitzes are ineffective.

We need DT's badly. We don't seem to be able to recruit them. CW better get his ass in gear. We have enough WR's.
