I was rummaging through all of the notre dame sites/blogs/etc and i came across this quote from david grimes about that 4th down touchdown reception:

"We saw that it was blitz 0 which means that there was no safety in the middle of the field. Jimmy looked at me and I looked at him and we made a play. Jimmy threw it up and I ran under it and caught it."

if that doesn't show you that this team is coming together than i dont know what will.

also notable looks like we're getting a tiny bit of praise by matt hayes of sporting news he had this to say about our boys:

Notre Dame: I've been saying it all month, and it slowly is becoming more and more apparent: The Irish have a ton of talented skill-position players. If the offensive line can gain more confidence, Notre Dame will score on anyone.

absolutely stoked about this weekend.

They better be clicking because Stanford is capable of scoring some points and won't be a push over for the Irish. Stanford's QB has a 115 rating, 2 RB's averaging over 5 yds. per carry and unlike ND they do appear to have a kicking game (5/6 FG overall w/ 3 of 4 being +40 yds.). Granted Oregon St. is the best team they have played thus far, but ....

A 115 rating in College is like an 80 in the pros.

If we play like the 2nd half Purdue game, we won't lose a game heading into the USC game.

I wouldn't go that far. They got their punk'ing for the year.

What team are we? The team that hammered Purdue, or the team that got our asses kicked on the both sides of the line vs. SDSU? I'd say somewhere in between, but closer to the Purdue 2nd half team. The point is that while we can probably beat anyone left on our schedule (I personally don't see us beating USC at the Coliseum, and UNC on the road is going to be very tough), we can also lose to anyone. This is still the team coming off a 3-9 season, fielding a bunch of freshmen and sophs at key positions. Road games are going to be tough. The team needs to take one game at a time, focus on the details, and not overlook anyone.

I think we'll get it done, but I just want to take it one game at a time. Stanford will be ready, and losing to them, considering how down the Pac 10 is, would be catastrophic. A win is a must, and I think it's coming...

I also see us losing at NC and USC. I am also VERY worried that we will lose another close game somewhere because of our FG kicking! 8-4 is still a GREAT turnaround from 3-9! Add in a low tier bowl win and this season would be a huge sucess in my opinion!

The offense looked great last weekend and it was all started because the offensive line played very well. Jimmy Clausen showed me a lot of things last weekend about his touch passing and deep throws, as well as his ability to check down through his progression and find the open man. Plus, the running lanes were outstanding for Allen Jr. and Co. If the offensive line continues to grow and expand their skill set and power, as well as plays with a mean streak, the Notre Dame offense will begin to grow exponentially. With the proper amount of blocking in both the passing and rushing attack, we have the tools to have an explosive offense.

The lines (both offensively and defensively) never get the publicity or the star treatment, but they are absolutely VITAL to championship football. It will be fascinating to see how inspired they get for a game against someone like USC, who generally have outstanding lines in the trenches. As long as the maturation process continues, I see our offense becoming very dangerous. The nice thing is, we have some tough (but very winnable) games from here on out and that will give us lots of experience and confidence building between where we are and our last game against USC. If we can finally take USC out, or at least scare the hell out of them this season, we can send a clear message that Notre Dame is indeed building correctly and will be a power once again.

I disagree, they looked like the better team offensively for the whole game against Purdue besides the slow start in the 1st, and they also looked great against UM and MSU when they worked the spread.

Great article on NDNation about how ND has finally found an identity on offense, we come out swinging and throwing the ball around until they have to give cushions to our receivers, then we run stretch plays with Allen... I think ND found itself against Purdue, now it's we have to not have these slow starts.

Yes we have to play a full game, if we play like we did in the second half we have a good shot at winning every game going into the colliseum, and as long as we are somewhat competitive in that game i will be happy, but first this young team needs to show that it can win on the road and i think unc will be a great game in terms of gaining experience and confidence in road games.

i really don't think they're gonna go to the orange bowl, but if they do and if it's against wake forest, i wouldn't mind that.

ND orange bowl bound!!!!

I don't want to see us get into a BCS game until we are ready for primetime. Next year we should be competing for a spot in a BCS game. I fear that another BCS blowout will kill our program's chances for making it into those games when it's deserved. We deserved it in '05. In 2006 I had my qualms about us getting into the Sugar Bowl....I wasn't sure 9 wins was deserving of that game. This year no way will we deserve a BCS game. Next year I think we'll get to a BCS game and win.

while this argument is good, i think the orange bowl would be great because

1. its like an hr away from my house and
2. the acc has a buncha teams that we matchup with very well.

Now i dont think we'll be in the orange bowl, but i wouldnt be worried about being overmatched in it, the other bcs bowls probably, but who knows, this irish team is still unknown, flashes of brilliance and flashes of crap, so it is safe to say they can play very good its just a matter of doing it consistently, i think this team has an "us against the world" mentality after last year and so if they play with that chip on our shoulder we can really get hot.

True. I do believe that the second half against Purdue was a turning point. Drive after drive after drive the offense executed to perfection. They pounded it down Purdue's collective throats. I had a feeling (see the Purude game day thread) that we were going to pound those guys in the second half of that game. What I saw brought a hope that I haven't felt since the months leading up to the 2006 season.

I just want to see us make a bowl game and win!!!
