I don't think bashing Ted Mandell is appropriate, but let's face it, he was in charge of the project and he put out an inferior product. If this was a corporation and he produced a bad commercial, would the board of directors give him a free pass because he had good intentions and was showing his passion and love? No way!
You have to look at virtually everything that bears the ND name or logo as marketing for the University. Someone on here described Notre Dame as being a brand. That is spot on. It is more than an institution and they have an image to uphold at all times.
If this video was produced by someone on their home computer for personal use or to be put on YouTube like the countless other ND videos, you could look past it. But this was put out by someone at the University for a University event and the end product was horrible. Passion and effort don't make up for horrible execution when it comes to marketing.
I might be able to overlook the song if it wasn't for that ass clown of a performer making a total mockery of the University. You can't tell me that out of the tens of thousands of alums of ND that no one had more talent, or even had contacts to more talent, than that waste of space Freakbass. This is marketing for the University, whether intended or not, and this guy was the best talent we could get?
