look guys,if notre dame doesn't beat the trojans, then they won't be going to a bcs game even with two losses.
A usc loss at the end of the year will knock the irish way back and out of a automatic bid and will probably keep them into a consideration situation, but other teams do travel just as well as notre dame these days.
The only catch would be if the bcs tries to play the money game to get notre dame in with the new payout structure and even that could hurt the bcs's integrity in the future.

To be honest (and this will piss a lot of you off ) with you,if notre dame doesn't beat usc, then I would just as soon they go to another bowl anyway.

I respect everyones opinions on this board, and believe me,I'll be the first to admit that notre dame is still going to win the national championship this year, but

I think the best senario will be that Notre Dame will beat LA. I am flying from Florida to go see the game -so, I am hoping that ND will pull the upset. I believe that USC is way overrated. We have basically the same team as last year and out-played them and really did win that game. Carroll is lucky - the instant replay challenge was not a standard rule last year. When we beat them - we will be a major bowl for sure! A lot can happen before then - I hate Michigan; however, I will be fan the day they play Ohio State.

A lot has to happen all the way around. And yes, we have to beat USC. but if we win out, until that game, convincingly, there is still a shot at the BCS. But to be quite honest, I don't really feel like going to a BCS game again as a two-loss team. And have every person in the world screaming in our direction that we don't deserve it.

But realistically, if ND wins out until that game, there is a good chance we are ranked around 4-5. I think Florida will lose, WVU and Louisville are going to knock each other off, UM and OSU will knock one off as well. We easily move up quite a few spots. Hopefully MSU can get off their asses as start playing again, and Purdue can turn it around and get going as well.

But yeah, if we beat USC we are obviously in a BCS game, and there is an outside shot that we get in the NC game. But only if we beat them very convincingly, and a lot of other teams perform sub-par for the second half of the season.

well one thing that I failed to take into consideration when I posted this is there are 5 bcs games this year. That does of course add 2 more teams, but I still think if notre dame doesn't beat usc, well I already stated my opinion on that.

talent,no talent,ty's recruits, rick minter, defensive woes, penalties, whatever conclusions anyone wants to come up with...I think this team can play better.

To get to the national championship this year we need Auburn to beat Florida, PSU to somehow beat UM. WV and Louisville will get overlooked and surpassed by ND when we beat SC.

Great post! I agree, as does everyone else on the board, that USC is our biggest game that is left. They will be tough as they are every year, and this will be our best chance at beating them for a few years. I think that a lot of people want to believe that USC lost a lot from last year's squad, which they did. However, they will be playing as a unit for 11 games coming into the matchup with ND. Prior to this year, that was a full season for a team to come together. They still have a pretty good offense, their defense is young but developing every game, and they have lots of depth. Personally, I think Keith Rivers is turning into one of the best MLB in the game. John David Booty has been in the system for about a decade and can flat out throw the ball.

Looking at the game right now, the only way I see us winning is if we stop their running attack. Don't let USC control the pace of the game. The ND Dline could be overwhelmed by USC's big Oline. Our LB's will have to play huge. If we can't stop their run, and our linebackers are getting blocked, then Tommy Z will creep up(as he so often does) and that leaves us prone to the long ball. We will need to spread the field to play to our strength on defense, which I actually believe may be speed.

Just a thought.
