A lot of the mid range passing over the middle, which Stanford feasted on, was due to play action. The linebackers were slow to recognize, and get good depth on their drops. When they did, they disrupted the Stanford passing attack.

Crist did well at the beginning of the game, because Stanford was in a cover 1 or 2. He was comfortable with the reads, and had time to make the quick throws. When Stanford went into the drop 7/8 cover 3... he needed more time, and accuracy to complete the passes. He had neither, and he missed a ton of reads.

In regards to the statement, "BK needs to put Wood in a position to succeed with blitzing".....the blitz is an option on every play with a 1st year QB. The objective of the defense is to make the "new guy" make his reads in a much smaller time frame. I don't know how BK could know when the blitz was coming every time, and be able to sub in another back. Simply stated, if Wood can't pick up the blitz, he should sit.

Just my opinion, your mileage may vary.
