I, in no way, read the book. But the quotes I read from the education sites discussing Higgins inclusion didn't malign the Quaker religion as much as it was just incorrect to include her as a "commie" poisoning young people's minds in college. She seemed pretty classy about it in her comments. Based on what I found, I wouldn't call it a crime worthy of burning in hell, but I don't have your perspective. You sounded pretty sensitive to his remarks so I'll assume he said something inflammatory about your religion...like I said I haven't read the book.

He listed her as one of the 101 most dangerous professors for teaching about peace and social justice (a pretty central theme in Christianity)...one at the core of my relgion. To label someone as a top100 dangerous person for doing that...well, it speaks for itself.

Ward Churchhill is a scumbag... Althgough, he's so crazy its hard to say he's dangerous. I can only imagine how all the student rolled their eyes at his lunacy.

Agreed on both comments.

To respond intelligently, we would have to read the book. Peace and social justice is a pretty BROAD topic. That could encompass just about anything. I'm sure it was controversial, otherwise, why even include it on the list?

Because he is trying to sell books at the expense of other people's reputations.

Do you know how he identified her? Most of us figured it out... She is a professor in the Peace and Global Studies Department at Earlham College. Which, just for the record, collaborates with the University of Notre and and Saint Cloud State University...as all three schools are known for their work in this area.

I know Caroline Higgins, I also know her husband Howard...I also know most of their colleagues in and out of their department. While I was NOT a PAGS major at Earlham, to call their teaching "dangerous" is beyond imagination. They are essentially teaching non-violent conflict resolution...which is, of course, directly in line with Quaker teachings.

Honestly, who here really believes that Horawitz sat through a course that each of the 101 professors taught??? Heck, I will even cut him slack on Ward C, since Ward C is a complete and utter nut...so let's say 100.

I would love to be able to have time to find/read her book. I'm entering in the busy part of my job for the next several months so it will be hard. If the guy slammed your relgion, that is not cool, but if he has issues with her on specific points that she put out for general consumption, then it would be ok to challenge her on those.

She did not write a book...he is criticiznig what she teaches in class.

Here's an excert from an article about it:
But, none of these factors has dissuaded conservative author David Horowitz from including the Stanford Ph.D. and Earlham College professor on his recent list of The 101 Most Dangerous Academics in America. “It’s ironic,” responds Higgins. “This is a peace studies program, not a war studies program or a terrorist program. We are seeking alternatives to violence and coercion.” Undeterred, Horowitz insists that Higgins is only “posing as a pacifist at a pacifist college,” that “she’s really a communist,” and that her course, Methods of Peacemaking, “amounts to a for-credit blueprint for left-wing activism.”

Like he has any clue who she is or what she does. And frankly, peace-making is at the heart of a Quaker school...it's at the heart of Christianity.

Well, you know what they say about opinions.....Lord knows I have enough that people disagree with. Like I said, I have no idea about what she professes, I just think that Horowitz is making a good case (as a whole) about college professors who are more interested in indoctrination and what kids should think, than teaching kids HOW to think.

I read a little about Caroline Higgins. While I understand why he may have a problem with her, I don't think that she would make my top 100 or 200 dangerous professors in America. For one, she is a professor of peace and social justice. What else is she going to teach but pacifism, non violence, and (of course) feminism. I'm not sure environmentalism has to be included in social justice, but..whatever. Also, she posts her syllabus online, and makes no attempt to hide where she is coming from. It does seem very appropriate for that type of study at a Quaker college. I'm not sure why he bashed her in the first place (I didn't read his book), so I can't comment on that.

Yeah even me being pretty far on the right(but thats just because my head is so big) thinks that she is almost an "extremist". unfortunatly for me, she grew up in the town right next to me.

edit: oops it wasnt her, its the "judge" Neopoliano thats always on fox news. i dont have anything against him but some how got them mixed up

Great line about leaning toward the 'right, but only because my head is so big" !!

I wish I had thought of that one!

Stoney, that was my take as well. BTW, if you spend a lot of time in the car, get a book you want to read on CD. I pretty much live in my car, so I'm always listening to local radio, XM, CDs, IPod & books on CD. You don't even have to buy the books on CD...just check them out at your local library.
