Notre Dame Football - It's In The Game

You guys have to check out this article from ISD!

This may be old news to some people, but I've never heard of it anywhere - and it's definitely news to me. The XOS Playaction Simulator is a PC based video game that uses the same technology as EA Sports to create a simulator for football players.

Kelly was one of the first to use it at Cincy and now has brought it with him to ND. Coach Kelly's playbook is uploaded to the system and the players can get virtual reps to help make the correct reads and learn the playbook. If the guys are going to be playing video games they might as well learn something while they're at it!

I think this is a great idea and hopefully Crist can get great use out of it while his knee is still recovering. The article brings up a great point about the seamless transition when Pike went down at Cincy last year. Could be coincidental, but who knows?

I think this is awesome and I think the players (and recruits) will think it's awesome too!

What do you guys think?

I'm an EA sports gamer involved with the NCAA Football series.

In fact, I used to be in the top 50 online for Irish players.

I'm a fan of technology, especially those in the form of actual defenses and offenses. EA has been on the spot with their games in the last few years. I haven't heard of your aforementioned system/software, but it sounds like a great training aid.

I post at a hardcore sports video game forum and you're the only one I've read in the last 5 yrs who think "EA has been on the spot with their games in the last few years".

EAs football games have been regurgitated junk for the last 5 yrs.

Name another software better and I'll relinquish my title as IE's videogame badass(completely self elected). So what, you don't like the graphics, realism, cost?

I'll admit they don't update a whole lot on their game, but I DIG it. Until it gets shown up, which it won't, I'm buying year in/ year out hoss.

johnnykillz09 is my gamertag.

I'll play you anytime you're ready for a beat down...

P.S., you get those Florida Gators, you'll see a real ND fan when you get beat with Tate, Clausen, and the bunch! I haven't played since September-ish though, so I'll need a warm-up.

My gaming penis is bigger than your gaming penis...

Anyway, back to the topic at hand.

I think this should be a great addition to the team's training regimen. One of our biggest problems last year was players not knowing what they were supposed to be doing, especially on defense, and particularly in the secondary. (Harrison Smith, anyone?...) Anyway, if anyone can think of a better way to get a college age guy to learn something than by putting it in video game form, I'd love to know what it is.

By the way, I used to love the NCAA series, but I stopped playing sports games with the advent of the current generation systems when EA decided to louse up the controls. I'd love to try out this XOS PlayAction Simulator though...
