hmm, its understandable that Mark Richt voted for Georgia, so that would account for there vote. And saban probably voted Alabama #1, but who also voted for Bama? I wish such things werent kept a secret.....

Last week I went with Spurrier, still my usual suspect based on his history, but perhaps it was the "no chest" guy. He'd be going to Atlanta if it wasn't for Bama.

They have to be kept a secret. Otherwise it would show their bias and they would have to explain their vote.

still dont get why saban and richt would vote their teams #1. They both control their own destiny. If they win this Saturday and on Jan. 7th they will be unanimous, undisputed national champs and #1 in every poll....so what's the point of lobbying. I could understand it if there were a number of teams who could potentially be competing to play Notre Dame on Jan. 7th and they are trying to boost their own resume.

Probably just a vote of confidence towards their team. Their prepping for a NC run, lol what would the players think if it came out that their coach thought they were #2/3

You hit the nail on the head. Everytime there's talk of opening the ballot to the light of day, a bunch of coaches, many SEC coaches included, use that exact point. "How can I expect my team to beat #1 if I vote my team #2 and they know that?"

It's a contradiction since the conferences have a preseason vote in their own conferences during Media Days. Some of the conferences try to finesse the contradiction by having the Athletic Directors turn in the ballot in those Media Day circuses. The coach can still say, "Well the AD does know you like I do. I'd have voted you #1."

It's BS. Southern Cal was the Preseason #1 yet ND and four other teams beat them. A&M wasn't voted #1 over Bama in the SEC Preseason Poll. It's simply to keep the ballots secret so they can manipulate the rankings during the season.
