How does one start a new post here?

Why do the ND receivers wear such short pants. Their knees are always exposed. The pants need to go done below the knee cap. Floyd would not have cut his knee last year if his pants were longer.

Well they wear short pants because it doesn't restrict their legs as much. Most of them don't wear kneepads either.....this allows to run and jump without any restriction of motion.

Like knee pads and longer pants are really going to restrict a players ability to jump and run. I know a player thinks so but it really doesn't. The protection is worth more than what they think they might gain. Thanks for the reply

I'm not saying that it actually does, that is what they think and yes I would go for the protection because I have taken a helmet off the kneecap before and it sucks.....

Yes, the longer pants and pads do restrict motion. I guess that is a risk they are willing to take, but receivers have gone knee padless for a while now.

I have often thought about ways to lighten the padding a football player wears
especially the helmets, while offering max protection. I remember a couple of years in high school when we switched to Bike air helmets. Those things weighed a friggen ton.

Crist's short sleeves make absolute sense to me. Someone joked in the gameday thread that he needs longer sleeves, but the less resitriction your uniform "package" can cause, the better.

lighter is faster. that's what it boils down to. restriction of movement isn't really of concern, imo.

If receivers had a choice, they would wear nothing but a pair of compression shorts.

This.

Receivers haven't worn knee pads for awhile now. They need to fly, not be protective. Why don't we give them all knee braces too while we're at it?

They seem to do fine with them in the NFL. I still see jumping, and running there, doesnt seem to bother them much.

Its all about the look. Why do soccer players wear those tiny little shin guards, why do hockey players go no cage (or no visor) why do athletes chew on their mouthguards...

its all about looking good, like your someone who isn't afraid to take a hit.

The bigger pants are restrictive, anyone who has played knows this. Leg pads are slowly fading anyways. Do you ever watch NFL lineman? they are really only wearing the game pants and nothing else.

I found the perfect uniform prototype that offers both maximum protection AND mobility!

This is the real reason for it, it has nothing to do with being faster, or jumping higher.

But those are the linemen. I have the ND game on DVR and most of the team except the OLine have knees exposed.
